Funny thing, apparently Wizards ate his blog. At least according to your links. Love the way the fighter is described as capable of contributing to an adventure, when we have 20 page threads that discuss the concept not working. Plus, there is no way in hell they are going to balance it. And how the...

Problem is, the same plot crap that helps warriors always pops up in the wizard fiction to "balance" wizards too, such as each and every spell having an opposite reaction, somewhere or upsetting a balance. Like this is going to deter a murder hobo if killing the dragon with a cone of cold ...

I kinda gotta ask how you market 5e at this point, because while "hey, guys, we fucked up" might be what we want to hear, it's going to sound to the 4rries like the Tiefling and the Gnome video.

Except Mind Flayers and beholders fly.

VAH's generally don't.

Sure, they can pick up ranged weapons, but the fliers can fly out of reach and drop giant rocks.

Well, Mike Mearls got promoted. Any hope for 5e?

link So, I guess Mike Mearls is now the head of D&D R&D, in charge of the entire brand name, Rich Baker took his old job, there's a new Elemental Heroes book coming out in 2012 mostly done by Robert J Schwaib (thus it will be an iredeemable pile of ass), and...that's about it. So, while 5e ...

Because you can break stuff really easily, but there are so many overpowered/poorly thought out monsters you need to be ready for.

But if you don't hold back, you risk alienating the guy over there playing the fighter/getting nerfbatted/summoning WEAL WOLEPLAWAs whatever.

It's a nerf to the old Orb of Imposition. Nevertheless, if you look in the essentials wizard book, there is a 15th level daily that knocks dudes unconscious for 1d4 hours when you fail the 1st save. The nerf to the save penalty stacking is that it all only affects the 1st save. Win, WoTC, win. Also,...

Also, we hate that complete warrior rule that you lose PrCs if you lose a requirement. That's what I've seen over here anyway.

I do understand why he gets jobs. He obviously has a gift for sounding like he knows his stuff. You have to actually parse it to realize that most of the articles end with him throwing up his hands in failure, with a few proposing old ideas that have been proven failures. He even ignores some of th...

Well, now there's a new one about opt-in rules. I don't think he's actually added anything to the discussion, except "DMs should have easy rules too!" But it's nice to know that there's nothing you can do to prevent the GM from fucking you over because he's an asshat, so we're not even goi...

MM is just retreading the same discussions that have been going on in gaming circles for 20 years or more. The fact that he either can't decide on a solution or likes crap solutions is not encouraging. Hmm. That's weird, because over on EnWorld they're citing this as valuable insight into the desig...

When I looked through the book, it seemed every other power was some kind of necrotic blast. As most of the ones I recall from the book were fluffed as some sort of dark fire attack (as well as all the necromancy powers we've seen outside the HoS book) that's where I got that from.

Has anyone been reading the Mike Mearls design articles?

On the WotC website Mike Mearls has been writing a column about redesigning the game. Here's the archive: http://www.wizards.com/DnD/Archive.aspx?category=all&subcategory=legendslore So my question is, is he moving in the right direction? I'm not sure. He's got a list of "core D&D"...

Well, yeah. Have you seen the new HoS necromancer? It's "dark fire, dark fire, dark fire, get 1 skeleton, dark fire, dark fire, dark fire, and more dark fire". Maybe some minion undead too.

Because when I think "necromancer", I think "dark fire."

I gotta ask, do we CARE that much about killing in D&D land? It's painful, but we know:

1)Death doesn't have to be permanent if you can afford it

2)There is, without question, an afterlife.

Don't these kinda take the edge off the moral stigma of killing? At least a little?

I was going to say "you could add necromancy as magic only," then remembered that a lot of psychics included speak with dead. However, if you wanted to differentiate magic and psionics, here's what I'd suggest. Psionics is internal power. You spend your power to do stuff directly. This mea...
