I think you have to go forced tiers because if you don't as a practical matter the game becomes just a repetition of the same challenges. You're always fighting monsters which the only distinguishing characteristic being how many hp they have or how much dmg they do etc. what you could do is allow t...

It's funny to me when people think they are the Quentin Tarantino of campaign design. You see this in every single genre where there are fans, go to any sports forum and you'll see thousands of wanna be GM's, movie forums have their bedroom directors, etc etc. Bottom line 99.9% of people do not poss...

Greg Arneston... classic. Claiming to be an authority on the minutiae of early DnD rules whilst being incapable of remembering the authors name. However, is the idea that skill challenges could be more complex necessarily unworkable? Apart from the foot-in-mouth moment, he does have a point that co...

wait, is this discussion seriously going on? Give me a fucking break. While it may be possible in some sort of Clinton-esq fashion that when under oath, when they had no sane motivation to do so, the person testifying for WOTC was trying to convince the court that it had sales in the millions by sta...

I am amazed at the fact that people are having the equivalent of an edition war over the removal of the cleric's heavy armor proficiency. According to some of the people on the Paizo forums, this change has a) nerfed the cleric into uselessness, b) harmed roleplaying potential, c) undermined the cl...

I never quoted that guy's figures, I used him as a link to the court case where WotC said under oath, that their total sales of Core Books were in the hundreds of thousands. As in, more than 100,000, less than 1 million. That is the sales range they gave to the united states legal system. Depending...

TD, Does it really matter if you can go through point by point and nullify each statement individually? I look at that list and the responses and come to the conclusion that for some reason 4E caused a portion of it's otherwise satisfied customers not unsatisfied. In my own experience for example I ...

Are you doing this on purpose? None of this is opinion other than the fact that I personally went to see Twilight and thought it was shit because it lacked in quality. That was what I was saying minus the Twihate. . Holy fuck do you not even know what a fact is? # Knowledge or information based on r...

I can't stand by while someone is justifying shit like Twilight. It was NOT a good movie and is SHIT for a book series. That is it. Most people have not ever even played an rpg so they haven't experienced it themselves. Ignorance of something does not == people not liking it. I SAW Twatlight and kn...

4e is a commercial success. That has nothing to do with it being good. Likewise, Twilight is a commercial success. By your reasoning, Twilight is good. Are you telling me that Twilight has any redeeming qualities whatsoever? (Let me answer that for you: no, it does not. And 4e's ability to generate...

Yeah, I run all games freeform. If players want to go teleport to the frozen wilderness and have adventures there, I can totally do that. I can generate potential enemies on the fly while I'm describing scenery, so I totally don't get the idea that it would be in any way difficult to handle players...

so what do you want out of a skill system?
Lot's of discussion about the failings or success of skill systems employed by RPG's. From what I gather the main complaint is that they do not lend themselves very well to group play. Basically for most challenge you have one player attempting it and the other's being mostly passive either watching...

I think I may like option 1. If I'm understanding it correctly there does not have to limit on how far one could progress in the first tier. Specifically I think I would be quite content to limit myself to tier one indefinitely. Conceptually I think people may have a problem accepting it though as y...

this is weird post. it's starts off with pathfailure so I go in thinking ok, someone has played the pfrpg and found another or had experience with the system being broken. but instead it's a couple of myspace messages or something with two people who are supposed to be purposely choosing to play a g...
