Does GURPS (or any system) have powers/rules to help put a slow down on Rocket Launcher Tag? You definitely don't want GURPS, at that rate, period; GURPS is a game where getting hit means the fight is over, and you lost. Unless of course you have some insane superpower, which you probably don't unl...

I second RC's assessment of GURPS. You can play GURPS Superheroes or something, but it honestly won't be very interesting. It's probably better for a more realistic game where you want extremely lethal combat and are therefore denying people advantages like invulnerability or regeneration.

It's a one-level dip. You want a familiar that bad, just eat it.

Edit: Oh, or you take the feat in Complete Arcane--Obtain Familiar.

You don't automatically "win" when you sit at a gaming table. There are plenty of people and RPGA events i've played in where I felt like i "lost" an evening. Concur. If you played, but you didn't "have fun" you "lost." Because, if nothing else, you could've ...

But, J_E, you know what you can and cannot plausibly do in real life. And your character is obviously not capable of doing anything you don't think you could do. Naturally, the solution to this is to hope you and the GM have the same definition of "common sense" and that his ideas about ph...

Where are people getting the idea that if you lose a familiar it has "minimal cost?" If the familiar dies or is dismissed by the sorcerer, the sorcerer must attempt a DC 15 Fortitude saving throw. Failure means he loses 200 experience points per sorcerer level; success reduces the loss to ...

Yes, it is off-topic to suggest that in-game skill systems (which require "rules") might be necessary to challenge the characters as opposed to challenging the players. I considered trying to explain how this understanding of "roleplaying" completely sucks for players who actuall...

The character will NOT do anything the player does not decide for... ...the character can never think for himself, and will always rely on the imagination of the player, so anything outside of thinking ability, reasoning...

Here's a good question, in my mind, regarding the need or lack thereof for various rules:

When the PCs in a game encounter an obstacle, whose skills are you testing to see if they bypass it successfully--the player's, or the character's?

I would like to house rule Darkskulls as the skulls of True Necromancers now and taking the True Necromancer class will result in head hunters coming after your ass. THAC0 isn't like having different save bonuses, though, because you can actually make choices that determine your saves and prioritize one over another. THAC0 is ...

What are the problems with THAC0? I could give thousands of other examples of how debating BAB is better is wrong, but shouldn't have to. You can also cast flesh to stone on a True Necro and hang him from your belt, if I remember correctly. Best use of a TN ever.

Well this isn't a thread discussing BAB, no matter what the 3tards want to turn it into. It is about THAC0. If you cannot discuss just THAC0 without BAB, then you have a problem, and should probably leave the thread. In another post that spurred this one to be created THAC0 was mentioned as bad, so...

It wasn't to make it where the players couldn't know the rules, but they didn't need to know. Just like an MMO, players don't need to know the formula for an attack, to be able to make one and have fun. This is incorrect. To be the best you can be at an MMORPG, you need to know how the game calcula...

So an AC starting at 10 and getting better, makes no sense, as that means somewhere there is an AC of 9, because there must be an AC of 0 if bigger is better, and 0 means none, as in no armor at all. Thus glass being weaker than a human to an "attack" would mean glas would need an AC lowe...

Re: Lago's 4E houserules.

You are allowed to use forced movement vertically. So here's a supplementary houserule: you don't fall prone from a fall unless you take damage from it higher than your level. At this rate, every power that pushes or slides essentially deals +1d10 damage for every square it would push/slide, becaus...

Now, it's very hard to get a social system that works without any MTP. The main reason for this is because social scenarios aren't something that can easily be simulated. There is of course the choice of turning a social encounter into some new minigame that isn't complex, but that tends to divorce...
