Re: Mutants and Masterminds d20 2nd Edition Thoughts

In any event, I'm not here to sell the system. Only to announce that it (and others like it) exist, mostly for the benefit of Hey_I_Can_Chan, back on page 1. [br][br]Okay, so I did 5 minutes of research on With Great Power , and I have to say it does sound like War + magical tea party = superhero g...

Re: Mutants and Masterminds d20 2nd Edition Thoughts

Okay, how about this: No superhero game can support the Avengers paradigm. In fact, no superhero game can even support the X-men paradigm.[br][br]That's 'cause the superhero world is governed by writers who employ characters either because of personal taste or fans' tastes. A superhero team in the c...

...But that tough nut pretty much wins you the game.[br][br]That's the problem with M&M's PLs is that it's totally anticipatory--you can actually count on what you're going to face and the degree of challenge it will be, and while D&D suffers from this problem to a degree, it's not the same ...

Re: Something I thought was odd about G.I.Joe

GI Joe is a 1E Spycraft game, where PCs and important NPC have PC classes and mooks have NPC classes.

Hell, Dr. Mindbender was even a Scientist with the unlocked potential class feature in Profession (hypnotist). Seriously.

I'm pretty sure it was Frank who said, "…unless your DM is a Gygaxian ass pirate…," something happens, and the something doesn't matter because not only do I want that phrase on a T-shirt ("My DM is a Gygaxian ass pirate!"), she isn't one, which only enhances the irony.[br][br]Go...

Which is, in essence, what would happen.[br][br]You'd pretty much buy your levels with XP. You could save up for the next level of wizard or buy a level of fighter right now .[br][br]Of course, you're right: it humps the saver a bit--for a half-level or one-third-level or whatever--but it's a possib...

Re: C&C - A preliminary review

There simply are zero benefits to a non-uniform system of power increase. It's more complicated without actually making anything work better. [br][br]Then let's stop equating levels with power. Let's say you could take a level of Ftr or 2 levels of rogue, but each level of rogue only gave you one t...

Well, sure. But in actual play this doesn't bear out. A dragon doesn't care much about radios and doesn't need a nuclear battery. What kind of behavior do you want to encourage? How effective should certain choices be (how many rifle shots does it take to get the center of a tootsie SAMAS, and similar)? What kind of guidelines should there be towards intra-party balance while still maintaining an enjoyable Rifts atmosphere (b...

The fact is that in any particular game you can have a character with substandard character abilities or even no abilities at all contribute as much or more than a character who actually has some intrinsic worth. Between magic items, NPC reactions, and player problem solving the character doesn't n...

Re: Being Good in D&D: this one's for you, K and Frank

It's not that roleplaying evil is "hard." Roleplaying evil is actually easier to do than roleplaying good in some ways. The problem is that people have a general poor understanding of evil. it's not all that important when they are on the receiving end of it, but it becomes important when...

Players should get more actions per round in the higher levels too. [br][br]No, they shouldn't. That slows down the game. When a player has both multiple actions and multiple options, then the game crawls as he processes each. When the game has one of either (for instance, 1st-edition D&D for t...

Who suggested that? Was it here or on Nifty?[br][br]It was, I think, a house rule--something like, "If you reduce someone to less than 0 hp you can say what happens to them." In other words, that could mean you leave them bloodied, humiliated, and defeated but still breathing yet unable to...

I've always thought the easiest fix for raise dead and the like was having the loss of XP come from the caster not the receiver. "You want him back so bad, you pay the XP." Is it worth the Clr17 a whole level to bring back the Bbn7? Hell, no. And the clr's god would probably agree.
