Re: Designing the perfect Caster class
Yes, but that type of thought is a fallacy - namely, giving power to A because he can break B that will further break B so he doesn't break B and does option C instead doesn't always hold up. At the base of it, D&D Is a game, which means it has rules. DEfined rules. Not "whenever the refere...

Re: Designing the perfect Caster class
But your way makes them useless, as at least currently, the DM can't pretend to run by the rules and play hurt-the-person-I-don't-like.
GIving more power to the DM doesn't work.

Re: Designing the perfect Caster class
... I'm sorry, when did D&D becoem Cops and Robbers? Your system is too dependent on a good DM, and it pretty much throws rules out of the window. (Oh, and Grease, infinite casting? Wow. You're begging for it to be broke.) [br][br]IN essences, sticking your headin the sand and going "The DM...

Re: Designing the perfect Caster class
Because you cannot guarantee the DM is good and the players aren't - for example, if the DM is bad but the players know the rules the DM will overrule them if it's not a outright rule . [br][br]It simply does not work to depend on the DM. Ever. THe rules should run so that hte DM can know nothing - ...

.. Neeek. That's for a poll tax. And as it's free to work around getting an ID, that is much like arguing X Is invalid because of y although you can bypass y.
(Secondly, the tax is on the service of a driver's license. NOt to vote.)

Re: Don't give me that 'It fits my character'! Crap
Actually, I hold that if you want to outright play something too weak to contribute, you should expect the DM to power it up. While it is a bit of presumption on his part, I doubt it is right to expect that your party members will continually reserrect you, take your share. IT's not fair to them, ei...

Re: Confusion. And a small rant about choices.
I think you can play evil - as in, you don't see the point in killing people, that's not why you're evil. No, you're evil because you don't seem to care about magical experiemnts on people, or making people more or less batteries, but you do seem to care about killing people.

I usually hold (there's bene an example) that taking a suboptimal choice is fine - but taking one that makes you have no use in or out of combat is not. Ever. [br][br]So, a 20 FIghter is fine. A clerical archer that never uses magic and takes skills like "Ride" is not. \[br][br]edit: Oh, a...

Re: Confusion. And a small rant about choices.
Well, I could have done that. And you have a point, that would have been a good idea. Generally, though, that's why I tell them "You can hire a NPC torturer" (who will be far less helpful than say, you used a Diplomacy check, or Dire Charm, but hey, that's your call..)[br][br]As for slaver...

Confusion. And a small rant about choices.
Recently, I attempted to start a game up. It's still in the gathering stages, as forum games that are d20 tend to get low interest in this board.[br][br]One person, an old DM told me, in effect, he didn't join because I do not allow the following in my games (because I took too many choices away fro...

... That's a strawman. PO is possibly permament. Gaseous Form clearly isn't -and frankly, if you're in it, you're probably in it for a defensive measure.

The fact that PO is in effect, a Class Emulator, means that it's other applicaiton is broken too.[br]As for NIN -[br][br]STatement 1 works out this way. If you want to be transformed, your DM should jsut let you be that originally - seriously, you don't need PO to be a spell for that - you can just ...
