Sounds like an interesting project. What starting level are you aiming for? Because I wouldn't bother with the Wish Economy unless necessary. Telling them about it is ok, but I'd rather introduce the concept over time through the ramblings of a high-level NPC or something than an up-front lecture. A...

Ptolus is also a whole campaign world of... One City. If you're doing Forgotten Realms, Waterdeep has a campaign book for it. I remember skimming it 10 years ago and thinking it was ok, but I have no idea how useful it really would be now. Ptolus and Waterdeep: City of Splendors both suffer from ve...

When I was hunting down some annoying differences between 3.5 and PF, I noticed that the d20SRD.org is not only still alive, but kicking as well. There are a couple of neat generators now for names, dungeons, encounters and all the stuff you might want. It seems like a cooperation with donjon.bin.sh...

You still get a saving throw vs say a fireball or death knell when you're unconscious. Since paralyzed creatures drown or fall down then flying since they become immobile, and since the helpless condition includes the paralyzed condition, how to you figure than an unconscious lump of meat gets a Re...

Well, it appears as if even a number of Paizo fans are losing their goodwill, if the rants about the latest errata for Ultimate Equipment are any indicator (a couple of moderately useful items were - unsurprisingly - nerfed into oblivion). I've glanced over a couple of recent threads on Paizo's curr...

If the GM is amenable to it, what I'd rather do is make a character very quick and sloppy to start, and then fine-tune the feats/archetypes/etc between sessions as we play. People aren't always on board with that though. This is pretty much how I run my games, since I don't expect anyone to know al...

Frank isn't wrong here, it's really super-complicated if your GM says that all Paizo materials are open for character creation. Not only because of the ever increasing amount of interacting options, but also because a number of those - namely a few recent Player's Companions - contained surprisingly...

Is there a guide to building a level 1 wizard in Pathfinder somewhere in this nearly 300 page thread? I want to give advice to someone who's being told that being an elf with magic missile is optimized. There's probably something buried in here, but you might also find some advice on this list of g...

Spoiler alert, if you have fucking 15 year old RPG books from 4 editions ago (more if you count 3.p) that you've never opened, then yeah, you probably never will crack that spine. But don't blame it on a review, obviously you're hoping for a spot on hoarders someday. I got all of the 3E softcovers ...

I agree with Dogbert, but I think we can expand on his point 3) a bit: While you might have problems with the plausibility of dozens of liches and mature dragons running wild within the walls of a 'normal' city, you also get the opportunity to introduce a huge cadre of weird - and interesting - NPCs...

I thought about Innistrad as a setting a while ago when I fiddled with a fantasy hack of the Thirty Years' War, to be played in or around the Black Forest, and basically got nowhere (Innistrad looked promising at the time because it comes with a lot less complicated politics than a Thirty Years' War...

As someone who's playing MtG only rarely and doesn't know all that much about block mechanics and metagame: what things does MtG have that would be cool additions to a tabletop RPG? Aside from being a planeswalker, having five colors of mana and summoning all kinds of weird stuff. Are there any card...

I think if one wants to go after skill bookkeeping, one should go after the 1 point increments. It isn't a substantial change in a character's ability and requires constantly checking to make sure all 84 skill points are accounted for. If instead when you leveled you just got to decide whether to b...

Also, did people ever really care? Not that poking at failures like this one isn't fun, but I never got the impression that e20 was a huge deal in any way. The people who like to bitch about d20's failures mostly know what's wrong with the system and how to (hot-)fix stuff if necessary, and everyone...

Say I'm interested in using/introducing biological technology or bio-magical stuff like grafts to my d20 game, where should I look for advise? I know Eberron did something with aberrant grafts, but IIRC it wasn't a huge part of the setting. Can Lords of Madness help me out? Or is there a handbook or...

That should be Numeria (I think?), where people loot laser rifles and EMP grenades out of a giant crashed alien ship that makes up one of the country's mountains. I think there's an evil techno-guild or something that controls the export of technology, but I'm hazy on the details. But there is indee...
