Why are we talking about sales and IMR again? Because people insist that BattleTech is dying. I say that while it isn't near what it once was, that could be said about pen-n-paper gaming in general. The profit margin on a garden variety BattleTech book is about 4 dollars a copy. Give or take. Clutc...

Honestly, it's pretty bad when the tech in Battletech looks quaint and antiquated in comparison to the technology in Warhammer 40K. It's time for a revamp that updates the technology and makes the game play more like the giant robot anime that originally inspired its creation... but I'm not holding...

Any of you bothering to follow the ramblings of Herb? He's proud of having decimated the warship-capacity of the universe down to 10% or so of what it was before the djihad . . And also to have obliterated most of the really old known faces and names. Some of those did not even get a propper death....

Yeah, well all this is bollocks. Everyone knows that the BT universe is governed by FASA-Fiziks and FASA-nomics, which are entirely incompatible with real-universe physics, military dogma and economics. In the BattleTech universe, a dozen bipedal warmachines can somehow pacify an entire planet of a ...

I'm not actually sure the storyline is relevant in BattleTech anymore. I mean, people who play it these days, do they actually ensure that they religiously stick to Catalyst's vision of how the game should be played? If you think about it, why should you accord Coleman, Bills, Beas and their coterie...

OK, as an Englishman, let me tell you about football (or soccer as weirdo Yanks call it). Football is the world game. It's played from the muddy fields of Hackney Marshes, London to the seething favelas of Sao Paulo, Brazil. This ubiquity is considered, by many, to be the Unique Selling Point of foo...

Fair 'nuff, point taken. And you're right. I was leaving out a lot of Christian denominations. I tend to differentiate Catholicism from the rest of Christianity though from a historical point of view. They were first, and pretty much most of the rest of the history of Christianity was reactionary t...

Sorry. I lapsed into British slang.Centurion13 wrote:Alastair Reynolds Sectioned? Or something else?
To be Sectioned refers to being forcibly detained under Section 2 or 3 of the UK's Mental Health Act. It's used on people who refuse to take their medication and/or are considered a danger to themselves or others.

Agreed. Initially, I was quite amused at the self-deluded triumphalist outpourings of the BT guys, as if conning people out of money (and not being punished for it) is a good thing. You know? It really weirds me to see them write that - as though survival of the game itself, in any form, at any cos...

It's really not that dramatic. Topps is a business. They don't want to lose money. Yeah, you're probably right. ... I have seen the moral worth of Battletech fans, and it is not much. I don't like Battletechers any more. Even if I had the power to get them out of their death spiral, I just... would...

Wow you take off for the day and look what happens. Its rather amusing to watch Frank try to spin this one. CGL/IMR's press release couldn't be clearer: they are going to secure the licenses for Battletech and Shadowrun. I seriously doubt they would publicly misquote a Topps employee if anything wa...

I may be in the minority, but I think CGL will hang on to both licenses, at least for the next few years (at the very least Battletech). They really should pay their freelancers/partners/distributors, I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is and boycott them until they do so even though I real...

Off the silly BT sidetrack and back onto how AH's is an asshat! He's now engaged in a public pissing match with the freelancer who redrafted his material. Good times. Well, it was fairly obvious Ancient History would make an issue out of this. All along he's had a low opinion of the scabs who are p...

What must be understood, to comprehend the greater problems of the BT franchise, is that most of the fanbase did not like the way the Jihad plot was executed, and thus left the game. One of my big pet peeves is when people project their own anecdotal experience as a universal fact. There is no evid...

You don't have to trust my opinion, but you do have to actually read the story of how it all went down in order to understand it. But like I said, I think your mind is already made up. Clutch I think plenty of us have read the story of how it all went down. It still doesn't make the Jihad arc, and ...

This thread is about CGL's woes, Battletech is produced by CGL, we are discussing the mismanagement of the Battletech franchise, thus this discussion is on topic for this thread. Why do I get the feeling that you were involved in writing or developing this material? Face it, most of the fanbase tho...
