New Traits
http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/build ... Traits.htm
I would like Traits for each of the following
-Sorrowful
-Regretful
-Mournful
-hypocritical
-erratic
And pretty much all the personality traits in the PHB2.
Thank you.

Hmm. . . I don't know if I can write up traits for those, but here's one I can come up with on the spotCount Geiger wrote:http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/build ... Traits.htm

You have a tendency to demand that people do even the most minor things for you instead of doing them yourself.
Benefit: You gain a +1 to Gather Information checks
Drawback: You take a -1 penalty on Craft and Diplomacy checks
Roleplaying hooks: Characters with this trait often barge into forums and demand that people write huge amounts of trivial number-twiddling for themselves in their first post.

Re: New Traits
That would be more lulzy if homebrew request threads weren't as common place as they are on most pen and paper RPG forums. As you know people with creative talent like opportunities to express it and it's not like any one made you post here.IGTN wrote:Hmm. . . Re: New Traits
That may be true, but you just came on here, with no reputation or anyone knowing you, not even giving a greeting, and ordering game mechanics for something that probably doesn't interest any of us as if we were running a fast food place. It'd be different if you'd waited around, maybe made a few posts, then politely requested help making those traits, but you didn't. One wonders if you might be the stereotypical parent's basement dwelling troglodyte whose only human interaction is your gaming group and whatever store your unsightly flesh wanders into. I, to be honest, am surprised IGTN even bothered answering your order, rather than ignoring it as I did at first.Count Geiger wrote:That would be more lulzy if homebrew request threads weren't as common place as they are on most pen and paper RPG forums. tl;dr version: We are not store clerks who are paid to fill an order, we are people who game and design games as something fun to do, if you'd like help creating mechanics, ask, but don't order.
I wasn't sure whether to reply with "gb2/r/" or "That's good for you. I want a pony, eight (longscale) quadrillion dollars and a tank, but alas, sometimes people can't have what they want."
Who even uses Traits?

The problem with using traits is that they're yet another layer of +1/-1s that you have to take into account but will never notice and will probably forget that you have over time, unless said carrots of vertical advancement are taken along with more little +1s that now give your character a +9001 to attack at level 1 or whatever.
Traits were made to specifically have less of an effect than a WotC feat, and WotC feats are frequently useless, as everyone knows. Therefore, if WotC feat=useless, and trait<WotC feat, trait=MOAR USELESS!111!
Tome backgrounds are at least big enough to slightly notice, and Tome games have in general fewer bullshit bonuses.
If you want your character to be sorrowful, then have that character act sorrowful! Write up some whiny emo background about how his parents were impaled in front of his eyes by a rampaging tarrasque and how had to go to an orphanage built on top of a permanent portal to the Negative Energy Plane that was staffed by those random crying undead from LM, making him all sad and stuff.
You don't need a pointless +1/-1 distribution to be sorrowful.

Out beyond the hull, mucoid strings of non-baryonic matter streamed past like Christ's blood in the firmament.
Re: New Traits
Sorrowful:
The character always wears black, and if ever subjected to a [Sonic] effect they cut themselves for 2d4 Slashing damage. The character gains a +4 fuckoff bonus on Diplomancy checks with the Undead.
There. Mournful can be the same, too.

(just because the constant attitude of "emotion=emo" bugs me and I can easily think of a character that is a counter example...)
Sorrowful
You've done something or seen something that's devastated you to your very core. Any night you sleep naturally, roll a will save (DC 15), if you fail you are plagued by nightmares all night and take a -1 penalty to all skill checks the next day. On the other hand, reminding you of this event and mocking it causes you fly into a rage as a barbarian of your level, once per day at most.
there, a trait for Kratos

I love you guys.
Erratic
You're not sure what you are good at, but it's always something.
Benefit: Once per day, you can add a +4 spasmodic bonus to a skill when not under pressure. You can't select the same skill twice in one week.
Drawback: Every sunrise, you must select a skill to have a -4 chocolate penalty until the next sunrise.

I had a signature here once but I've since lost it.

Thats not really much of a drawback. What if the penalty was to the skill you chose yesterday?the_taken wrote:I love you guys.

People are creating new and interesting traits, sure. However, they're also doing exactly what the original post wanted. That's a good recipe to get more people coming in and doing it again. If someone knows that he can come in, make demands, and get good results, he's going to keep doing it.Mauver wrote:I don't see how anyone's been fed. Count Geiger. He may not have been actually trolling, but his arrogance and the results of ten seconds of googling pinned my troll-o-meter.

Veb, based on CoGei not having posted since the third post in this thread, the only troll we're feeding are us. We are the troll.Vebyast wrote:Count Geiger. He may not have been actually trolling, but his arrogance and the results of ten seconds of googling pinned my troll-o-meter.
And then TGD was a zombie.

well, not exactly. The things we're seriously writing wouldn't fly as traits, we're writing backgrounds that are vaguely modeled off of traits. And I think we berated the troll enough to drive him off.

I don't think that C. G. is actually a troll. I think he would have been perfectly happy with a single reply as lonng as it had a billion statted out traits.

I think he started out just wanting stuff, but his second post is pretty close to troll: it insults someone that jokingly criticizes his behavior, it makes vaguely insulting generalizations based on stereotypes, etcetera.
Anyway, I just realized that I'm causing as much trouble as I'm objecting to, so I'm going to stop talking.

Is there a greeting thread? I didn't notice one.
I personally find it annoying when people try to psychoanalyze me based on 2 posts. And I have no interest in playing whose the the troll. What did you find from googling my name? I generally have a take what I can get attitude towards what I can get off homebrew forums. Also I'm not exactly interested in traits but tips in how to exemplify certain behavior types when building PrCs.
Also how do I make charts on this forum? I tried [] and it mostly worked, except my table was all screwed up.

Wouldn't that list be better served by, I don't know, roleplaying it and decent writing/characterization? They really seem so vague that it'd be hard to nail down ONE solid way for them to happen, and therefore it's hard to write satisfactory rules for them.
It tastes funny to say anything like "Roleplay, not Rollplay," but in this case...those traits/features are too vague to be nailed down in one specific way.
Take me. I'm an erratic person. I admit it. Things that were told to me five minutes ago slip my mind sometimes. In extreme cases, I blank on how to do something I KNOW to do or forget a word I know I know.
Someone might have another definition of erratic. Just like someone might have a definition of hypocritical or sorrowful.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

There's no established greeting thread, but you did just come in and treat us like waitstaff of McDonalds. This is what I found impolite, expecting us to just do your work for you. Come back in a week or so, and try to actually get to know us, collaborate, or, hell, at least say "Hey, I'm not sure how to stat this stuff up, could you guys help me out?"
Now, honestly, you'll likely get a response on the order of Maxus' last post, but...
