And yet you're the type of person who posts over a dozen times a day on a board filled with such people.

Damn man, yerself.

The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

a rhetorical argument is commonly accepted to be one you do not expect a reply to, however you phrased yours as a personal attack

so basically you're stupid

Am I winning yet, or do I need still to chain post another half dozen repititions of a vague ad-hominem that ignores all counterarguments to make you see this my way ?

It's worth noting Josh is 4e's biggest fan on this board, arguing it over 3e in a lot of cases.

Think about how stupid you are that the 4e fans are making fun of you.

Me, either, dude.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

No, he thinks you are stupid because you misunderstand everything that is being said by literally everyone, even people on your side. For example, you misunderstood him right there.

Seriously, you have to tell me: are you a native speaker of English? Perhaps under 12?

If you are, I think people will treat you a lot nicer. If not, you've used up all the rope you've been given.

you know, it would be really nice to live in a world where I could believe anything I typed no matter how stupid. how's it working out for you?

Mmm, it's honestly a bit annoying to live in a world where you believe everything you type no matter how stupid. It makes me lose faith in other people.

It does take some balls to come out and admit you're a compulsive liar. I have to give you props for that.

Also:
Some people earlier in the thread wrote:rhetorical argument
Also known as an argument from rhetoric; one that appeals to emotion rather than reason. Not to be confused with a rhetorical question, as some people who just repeatedly parrot things based on word association games might do.

you do realize that there is no commonly accepted definition that supports your claim, yeah? but at least you haven't got the balls to admit you're making shit up as you go and assigning definitions you find convenient

as opposed to the actual definition of rhetorical which I'm moderately certain you are capable of finding

edit: I suppose you could mean an argument from pathos but uh then you would be assigning all of rhetoric to the pathos style which is just terribly stupid

Yay bluster

Wow that looks pretty consistent with exactly what I said. Amazing how that happens.

No. Anything which is not a purely deductive or inductive argument appeals to the emotions. That Aristotle long ago decided to classify things according to whether the feelings appealed to were about a person (ethos), about your own reasoning (most uses of logos), or about anything else (pathos) is meaningless. An appeal to authority/moral character or an appeal to your own self-image as a reasonable person is more subtly emotional than a direct appeal to FOR THE CHILDREN!, but it's still emotional.

how does "used for, belonging to, or concerned with mere style or effect" equate to "appeals to emotion rather than reason" exactly? rhetorical arguments in the first sense can use logos, pathos, or ethos as a basis because it's presenting a point of view simply to present it, but your quote just automatically assumes pathos

I wonder if the 4e crowd even knows that 4e supposedly fixed. They have the same nebulous "CoDzilla is broken!" belief that Gleemax and BG have, but beyond that, it's mostly been people from here pointing out flaws in earlier editions.

This is what HPs should be and, accidentally, what they ARE in actual DnD. Deal with it, bitch.
