So, caught gastro, got the sack because I was too sick to work for two days.

Meaning I get paid for one week. Which, after tax, public transport, all the medical stuff, and buying work clothes, leaves me with the same amount of money as a fortnight from Centrelink. So when I report earnings to the gov, they'll go "Oh great, we don't have to pay you this fortnight."

So basically all the pain and suffering was literally for nothing, except undoing about three years worth of building up the courage to try working again. Fuck it. My job agency can get back to me when they find a desk job that starts no later than 9AM and immediately puts me on as a permanent so I have actual rights. Until then, they can fuck off.

You have every bit of sympathy from me. I basically find job hunting the most demoralizing experience in the world because I qualify for a lot of the jobs people put out on market but get hired for none of them, and when I finally do get hired I basically get bitched at until I am emotionally incapable (yes I have an actual mental disorder working against me here) to do the job, and then I get fired. Woo.

Maybe I'll get accepted to university this year.

Same, with the mental disorder thing.

Still, if I have to find a plus side, then it's that my feet will never again need to go near those boots, and can start healing up. And that I can continue working on various projects here.

What country do you work in? Cause I'm pretty sure that in most of the civilized world if you're too ill to contribute, they forgive you on the expectation that you make it up as soon as you can. At least, that's what I think happens in Ontario, Canada, but I haven't been hired (and then debilitatingly ill while working) so I can't test that theory.

Ausfailia. It's less shit than the US, but it's no Europe. And if you're casual, they can sack you for any or no reason at all.

I do understand them needing reliable people who can keep to a schedule, but they seem pretty crazy. Oh well. I actually tried my best, apparently they want Superman.

Or possibly "a man". But I'm not totally convinced it's that.

If only due to sheer, obstinate idiocy. Look at what our government's been doing for last few days. Then imagine a country full of people doing that all day every day.

Also, Koumei, that sucks. There's a reason I'm headed into academia and research rather than business.
