Legal documents have their own citation format. And there's more than one legal citation format. Though, honestly, if they can find the thing you are referencing without much effort, it's not that big a deal.
The difference between law and general writing is they will pretty much always look up the references. They are supposed to, since your case is based on what was entered in the things you are referencing.
