Yeah, I think if he tries to register the copyright, it becomes a whole different ballgame.

And if he was going to make his stuff OGC anyway, why bother taking it off the WotC boards? Because he really cares about having his name on the OGL copyright notice that most readers don't probably don't look at?

I'd back that up.

I used to date a writer. Her thoughts on plagiarism were simple "Plagiarists should be shot."

I sent him an e-mail, politely requesting he at least give credit where it's due, and it bounced.

Looks like he doesn't actually want any comments, questions, criticisms or support.

I took a shot at e-mailing him, using both of his addresses.

His yahoo address seems to be discontinued/closed.

But his gmail address didn't bounce. Or, rather the returned mail I got didn't say his g-mail bounced.

So I'll wait a day or two for a response, let the Denizens know, and then someone can try his g-mail address.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

He replied!
First, thanks for your email and kind words.

Second, I'd really like to credit them, but the email I sent requesting their real names has gone unanswered. I'm not going to use internet handles if I can absolutely help it, as it's pretty damn easy to just go create a few accounts named 'Frank Trollman' or 'K' on a few message boards and pretend to be them. To be honest, I haven't retried to get their names in quite some time. As I haven't been working on this material for nearly a year, it's slipped my mind. Which is inexcusable. I should have been I'll sending them more often, and I will send them an email within the next couple of days.

Third, when asked on the WotC message boards, K said that all their works are Open Game Content. That includes the flavor text and characters they've used as examples. My claim is all non-Open Game Content as my original material. That was meant to cover characters, proper names, places on my game world, the descriptive text used for the classes, and stuff like that. Turns out to be nearly a moot point, as I've included so little of that sort of stuff (just the class descriptive text). All the game mechanics are actually Open Game Content, including both my original stuff and the material created by Frank & K (which is already Open Game Content anyway).

And, yes, it's obvious I like their stuff. Mostly I like their prose and the ideas behind the mechanics more so than the actual mechanics they've created. Their stuff feels much too... "rocket launcher tag" for my tastes. That's why I've toned it down, even when using some portions verbatim.

So, thanks for the reminder and the praise. I'll get that email out to them pretty soon.

Frank Trollman's real name is "Frank Trollman." It's a family name, which I know because I personally know everyone in his immediate family.

I'd figured as much. I remember Frank said something about it, once.

And all this time I thought it was a clever joke about his reputation on half the gaming forums on the internet.

Granted, I first encountered Frank on the net shortly after his banning from the WotC boards, so that probably colored my thinking.

On the actual topic of this thread: that guy's declaration of OGC is probably too vague to satisfy the OGL's requirements. I mean, if you don't regularly read the WotC boards or this board, you have no idea which ideas are his and which he borrowed and modified from somewhere else.

You do wonder if the name lead to RPGs out of a inevitable fate. Like if you were called John Goadoun it would be a sign that your destiny was to be to turn tricks at the Y.
The internet gave a voice to the world thus gave definitive proof that the world is mostly full of idiots.

At least Bauman didn't change the content he stole, so it still keeps the original comdey intact.

Eric Bauman creator of EBaum's World. He pretty much just stole other sites videos and made money off of it.
