What with all the new members beginning to post lately, and good posts too.
Just something that I was thinking about.

It's a case-by-case issue IMHO.

I agree completely though, they are decent.Thread Title wrote:I guess we're not all that offensive.

Being offensive is not always the best way to achieve things over the internet. Having read the works of Frank and K and hearing that this is an excellent forum I decided to give a more thorough look. Hopefully my WotC/BG activity doesn't make me a total outcast.
Joe, who plans to own Newall's Plumbing Company, asked the presidential hopeful about his plan to increase taxes for some Americans. He felt that Obama's increase plan may redistribute wealth.
"Robin Hood stole from greedy rich people and redistributed it to the peasants, so to speak, so if he's [Obama] calling us peasants, I kind of resent that," -Joe the Plumber, a Republican.

Rofl, not likely.
A lot of us here used to be regulars on WoTC. Some of us have joined BG, as well as the Paizo and GiTP boards.
Personally, I got bored of the general overanalysis of builds and feats on WoTC, and how the system itself was not looked at, or why the system works the way it does, and how I could explain why the system does things the way that it does.

My main thing on WotC now is helping newcomers. Used to be there for the community, but much of the people whose discussions I enjoyed have now left that place. Well, I have my little challenge I run there, but that's not why I actually stay there.
Paizo and GitP I never even bothered with. Heard too much bad about the latter and for all I know Pathfinder is not exactly my thing. Being constantly exposed to negative links to Paizo doesn't help either.
This place still seems nice. Haven't had the chance to look around as much I would've wanted to yet, but I suppose there is no hurry.

Well, since this seems like "whats your story:"
I started on the Wizards of the Coast forums some years back, before 3.5, even. I stayed there for a while, then drifted in an out. Wrote a whole bunch of stuff of varying quality (i.e. 99% of it sucked), mostly because I took up writing game rules as an easier hobby than playing since you can write game rules without scheduling a group.
I eventually migrated over to GitP, and continued doing what I did before. Groups came and went over this time, of course. I discovered the Den off of some discussion related to the Tomes; I think it was the Book of Gears in progress.
I registered after lurking a bit and almost made a first post, but realized I didn't have much to say, so I kept lurking. I think I've learned more about the game lurking here than I did posting anywhere else.

I know what you mean IGTN.
Back when i played AD&D i wrote up a fighter class kit for a character that I was playing (basically it was crunch that worked with how the game we were playing was going).
When I started again with D&D in 3.5 I felt that after a while that I wanted to make up my own PrCs and/or classes.
I saw some things that some people made, and they seemed.... stupid. Either unfocused in abilities or overpowered or other stupid shit.
I gave a try to writing up a new version of the Horizon walker, and I wasn't pleased at all with it, but I didn't know how to fix it or where to start.
Eventually, months later I found either the Necromancy Handbook or Races of War on the WoTC boards, and eventually came here.
When wotc's boards xfered, my account got fubared and I haven't gone back since.

Could be a lot of people like me who joined without really lurking for any amount of time. This is my first post here.Judging__Eagle wrote:What with all the new members beginning to post lately, and good posts too.

Spent a lot of time on the WotC boards and a little at Paizo pre-Pathfinder (I have a GitP account, but their thread layout is hard to read so I rarely go there). I found this place through Sig and the Feybook, and found a lot of insightful ideas once I got used to the snarkiness. Denizens tend to be a lot harsher in their language, but they dissect things very thoroughly.
I credit TGD with making me more aware of the flaws of D&D and what "balance" truly means...which will hopefully improve my own games.

I found this place through Google-fu. I was looking for a Jester class, and came across the Dungeonomicon.
Then I started reading all the Tomes, and got inspired to join up on here.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

They are so crazily higher than those of any other message board I know (with one exception that's mostly devoted to a single publisher), that it still sounds silly.zeruslord wrote:This is by far the most offensive board I post on. I wasn't talking about swearing, although this is the only one where avoiding the swear filter was a tradition espoused by the entire board only because it couldn't be removed entirely, but more about the general disagreeableness and complete lack of political correctness or requirement for politeness. This is the only board I am aware of which has so few members and is on it's fourth "Let's make fun of specific people" thread.Arioch wrote:this is about the second least forum I've ever posted on. Although WotC tends to offend me on a different level than mere swear words can do.

It's not exactly specific people, though, it is. We don't care what they ate for breakfast, what color they are, whether they wear dresses or espouse various religions. It's to point at mistakes in reasoning and evidence.
And there's lessons to be learned there. Not in only that we don't really care whether they're wussy or brave or scared or whatever; but that we shouldn't make those mistakes in reasoning.
Which is an important lesson.
