Kraken is probably the best. Crab hybrids might not be the best rush choice, since they're kind of expensive and compete with the hilariously effective ithilids for money to a much greater extent than other dudes. You also need an "Oh shit, Astral/Nature bless" plan. Preferably one other than "cry". Actually, trying some highly unusual plan like Productivity 3 meteorite guard spam might not be a bad idea. Atlantis is going to be making plans to counter mind blasts, no doubt. Given their relatively heavily armored dudes with poison barbs, my current army composition is definately a terrible idea. You might even consider using slave guardians. Okay, maybe not that.
I'm glad to see that I apparently converted you to the bootless cult .
Incidentally, I sort of feel like trying another PBEM alongside the one Avor is running. Get a feel for a land nation, probably.

Oh, relevant to a recent debacle I experienced:
1) An enemy force is about to enter a province where I have a fort.
2) I order a force into that province
3) They get there before the enemy does...
4) ...and hide in the fort.
Is there anything that could have been done to prevent step 4?

If you move units to a province that has one of your forts, you have the option to "move and patrol" - where you move t the province and then go on patrol. This not only gives you a chance to kill rebels and spies, it also makes you fight outside the castle.
name_here wrote:Note: If you don't use "move and patrol", you will always have that problem. Movement in friendly lands occurs before normal attacks.
I knew that, and that Patrol is how you get people to not fall back inside a castle; I just didn't see the Move and Patrol option, which is like the move *without* sneaking option: not immediately obvious.
If enough other people don't want to play, I'll be willing to be the shitty nation everyone beats up on.

I think you have to move first, then reselect to get the 'move and patrol' option...been a while since it's come up for me.
