Yeah, the happy ending version has the show they write in prison go on to become a legitimate success. But that ending goes back to the 2001 musical version, adapted by Mel Brooks, the original author. He also eliminated the hippy, because the musical is set in '59 for some reason, so the part of Hitler is played by the author of Springtime for Hitler, and is hilarious in an entirely different way. And Ulla's part got beefed up so the show could have an actual female lead.
The story about fraud gets diluted by a romance subplot and a power of friendship subtheme, and is overall not as good. But maybe it was better for Broadway? The thing is dripping in awards and box office records and such.

This might make a difference. I figured it was probably meaningless when I signed it, but with actual media attention I'm a little more optimistic.
