Wow I leave for a few days and the internet blows up at me.

Okay let me first get my mistakes out of the way.

1.*faceplams* Shadows, duh I use actually AC instead of touch

2. Yes, sigma I should have added a link back to this site, but I though dubs was okay since I have critiqued other class that dubs's has made.

3. I thought dubs was mature enough to handle the critique, since I have when through other classes by the author.

As for me getting flamed, I highly doubt it. For some strange reason I don't really build enough "anger" in people to get flamed. I have quoted Frank before without any real response from WOTC boards.

I guess I will go to the thread and try to smooth these things out since it looks like it spiraled out of control.*

@Voss: I wasn't really going for a cry but apparently I said that his class was worthless (which I bloody well didn't say that or I wouldn't have bothered to critique the bloody thing at all). It is annoying when people twist words like that.

Huh. That guy has himself screwed.

He could try running a Dungeonomicon Monk. Or if nothing else, he could dumpster dive for weird monk weapons like the Scissor Sword from one of the Dragonmech books.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

Really? You really need to have that acid reflux problem looked into. :bored: Honestly, just a bunch of idiots with no understanding of the rules. Nothing to see really. Move along.

Barber pole as a quarterstaff. What are they thinking? You have to make the character a bard not a monk, every barbershopper knows that! Just as broken if not more so!

Ack, now I just read a 3 page GitP thread. I'm so glad my cubicle is designed so that the walls are not within easy reach of my head ... :disgusted: ... I might be brain dead from the damage after reading it.

4E must be anime because Tolkien Sucks? I am not sure if I hate 4E but I sure as hell hate what is written in the hype about 4E. Yea, we thought that slow moving zombies sucked but don't worry you can get critical hits on them now. Whoop de fucking do.

You know it would be nice if most of those in that thread knew what words mean and actually read each others posts.

*sighs*

Since I am not registering to giant tip I will just say it here...
Anime is a medium (well actually a sub medium), It has a long variety of genres that it encompasses, just like other mediums. Saying it draws from Anime is like saying that it draws from novels. It is a very uninformed statement to say, but I think the person means that they don't like the nuances of some Anime (such as saying the names of your attacks, or seeming randoms hair and eye color). Yeah, I know that other non-anime/manga has this too.

*takes off nice guy hat*
Obviously this dumb fucker hasn't really watched much anime or he would have seen an anime called "Lodoss War" which is pretty much a Dnd campaign. It's really bloody annoying when some dumb ass makes broad statements like that, definitely about a product that isn't even out yet. Guess what, Tolkien wasn't the only bloody author writing fantasy! Here is a fun fact: Guess where the inspiration from most anime stories and abilities come from? Other fucking stories. The Japanese got their drawing style from America any bloody way.

:flames: :disgusted:

Also can any one on the thread spell Hollywood right, I can assume that those forums have spellchecking.

I'm glad any time D&D breaks away from LotR. I'm glad I read the series way back when, but there's no way I'm going to do so again.

Heck, it makes a pretty shit model for an actual game, too, what with "DMPC level (high enough to solo a Balor in melee) Wizard", a handful of low level PCs and then the joke characters (anyone who wrote "halfling" on their sheet).

So while I'm not a fan of much anime these days, I'd still prefer Ikkitousen-inspired, Gundam-inspired or whatever D&D rather than LotR: the tabletop.

Actually someone on that otherwise incredibly stupid thread had an interesting point:

Gandalf, Aragon, Elrond, and Galadriel are actually player characters. Frodo is a plot device.

The adventure is that there's a mighty artifact which the player characters dare not touch that must be destroyed. The PCs are playing an elaborate game of Lemmings where they have to draw the monsters off a couple of low level experts who have plot device powers allowing them to carry the cursed ring around.

Normally I don't comment on these types of arguments, considering that one of the biggest DMPC in D&D, Elminster, makes Gandalf look like a boy scout but I have to call you on this one.

Koumei at [unixtime wrote:1198022276[/unixtime]]Heck, it makes a pretty shit model for an actual game, too, what with "DMPC level (high enough to solo a Balor in melee)

Pray tell what DMPC could solo a balor? Gandalf did a stare-down with a balor, chucked all his levels away (because all his power was bound in his staff) and caused the balor to fall to his death, (KLUTZ) which was followed by his own being dragged to a similar fate. Hardly a solo by any means of the imagination.

LotR might not be the best "adventure" plot wise, there are a number of railroads throughout the adventure. Oddly enough the Hobbit is probably a better example of a good campaign complete with side quests, characters causing problems for others along the way and of course hiding when the shit hits the fan. In that sense LotR is just like any stupid Elminster module. You can play in the setting without having to be slaves to those annoying books.

I also happen to not like a lot of the crap in LotR, and most things in LotR also appear in D&D. I could do without dwarfs full-stop, halflings and annoying, self-important arrogant elves.

So I'd still play a "I watched this anime and..." D&D game before I'd play a "So I re-read LotR and..." D&D game. But to be fair, that's only in the same way that -1 is greater than -5. You're still not going to see me playing in that first one.

Even if there are schoolgirl fights with short skirts and exploding shirts, and lesbian ninjas with energy penises.

Why LOTR sucks: no dwarf women.
Sturdy, well-endowed dwarf women.
That cook really, really good.

And Koumei, I saw an animated gif on 4chon a week ago that DID have an energy penis, but it was some Gundam farce. Yes, one giant robot raping another.
Close enough.

I'm on a Gurren Lagann binge right now, btw. That's some good Japanese import shit.
Glad I'm not paying for it, though. We'll have to wait months for 'official translations' by ADVision; nothin but fansubs right now.

If memory serve, Lord of the Rings had the majority (like two-thirds) of dwarves as males, and the women stayed in the mountain hall, and, if they had to travel, they disguised themselves as dwarf-men.

I kinda prefer Terry Pratchett's dwarves. You see their women all the time, it's just that they look and behave pretty much like the men, and dwarves actually don't make a deal out of gender. Their language's pronoun is even gender-neutral, (but rendered as a masculine pronoun when translating into other languages). There's no such thing as women's work, either, once the kids are on solid food.

And they can get away with this because all dwarves have good, full beards and rocky voices, and once you get twelve layers of chain mail and leather on one and give him an axe to carry on his back, gender's pretty much optional.

IIRC there's a bit in LotR (the movie I mean) where Gimli talks about dwarf women being the same as in Discworld.

Well, in the 4E races and classes preview book that WotC is trying to sell people, it has a whole paragraph about how they are trying to make dwarf women sexier. I'm not exaggerating, they use that exact word.
