*whatever group means in that case.

If thats not your position, could you rephrase it?
I lost the thread somewhere.

If the above is your position, it's totally meaningless, because you/I/whoever could allways find an arbitary reason why the 'others' are not in the same group as you/me/them.
Another thing to remember, in ancient times after an fight you won you had basically 3 options open to you.

  1. Let them go/live and hope they won't try to get revenge
  2. Subjugate them
    a) as a whole, like the town is now paying tribute to us. Only an option if you dont think they wont get stronger than you over time.
    b) divide them, i.e. take them as slaves and make shure they cant reorganize.
  3. Kill them
  4. Well, 4 Options, the forth being some combination of the above.
Actually, there's a fifth option, though I doubt it was ever actually used- which is to integrate them into your society. Basically, enslave them, but give them a choice of what to do and pay them and basically make them captive residents.
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

True, they did actually bring the goths into their society, they just didn't make them full citizens. Which went about as well as you'd expect.

You're not alone, Count. I'm a lot closer but don't have the money to get there or go through.

I'll have to find a blood covered nude woman to lick my face closer to home. And for free.

Welp.

I'm not sure that the ISIL beheading videos don't count as snuff films. The jihadis do the filming and beheading are being paid to produce those films. The goal is to produce propaganda videos rather than to sell for money, but there are people paying for it to be produced.

You could say the same about people paid to record any execution; I think the profit-from-sale drive is key to the concept in most folks' view.

So amateur pornography doesn't count as pornography, because they're doing it out of voyeurism rather than profit?

I think snuff films are like porn - it's the audience that determines what does and doesn't count. So if people are watching these Jihadi films for the sick thrill of watching someone get killed, then they are snuff films.

That's a bad analogy. The definition of pornography has nothing to do with whether or not its purpose is commercial. By definition, pornography is any depiction of explicit sexual content for the purpose of causing arousal. Amateur pornography is still pornography.

But snuff flicks are by definition commercial murderography. No, I'm pretty sure murderography isn't a word, but it helps me illustrate the difference between the two cases, so I'm using it.

Do we particularly need to discern cidgraphy from commercial cidography?

(yes, I'm aware "cide" is latin and "graphy" is greek, but I couldn't find a greek word root that means "murder" specifically)

Well, one of the things that makes language so useful is that you can tell this sentence is about language and not bananas. So in principle having words that do not mean the same thing as other words is pretty useful, yeah. Whether or not you feel like there needs to be a specific word for commercial murderography (I'm sticking with it, it sounds like a Deth Klok album and I love it) is wholly up to you. Regardless, we seem to have one for some reason.

And if evangelical Christians can beg for bajillions of dollar on national television and still be labelled a religious non-profit, I would assume that whatever tiny sums of money are involved in the production of grainy ISIL execution videos doesn't disqualify them from a similar non-commercial classification.

The classic greek for murder is "φόνος" (phonos) which is very similar for the word for sound "φωνή" (phoni). The root "φόν" (phon) is often transliterated the same in English. So the correct word would be "phonography", which is the word we also use "for sound-writing". They could have used "phoan", but didn't.
You could run with it anyway, or use "θανατος" (thanatos), the word for death in general. Which doesn't depend on whether the death was murderous, natural or accidental. That would be "Thanography". Which kind of works.

Initially I went with necrography, which also works, but, like thanography, it doesn't discern whether the death is murderous or accidental.

An erotic haunted house sounds awesome, but Kink.com isn't getting a dime out of me until they learn that using a safe word isn't grounds to berate a model for fifteen minutes.
