Re: [Let's Play] Fighting Fantasy 6: Deathtrap Dungeon Redux
The implication that the motivations to open the door are both socialism and capitalism amuses me.
The door opens into a large room.
You look round the room and see nothing of interest apart from an alcove in the west wall and a stone chair in the middle of the room. Sitting in the chair is the skeleton of an armed warrior, possibly a contestant from years gone by. The skeletal fingers of its right hand are gripped round a piece of parchment.
Go over to the skeleton and take the parchment?
Go over to the alcove?

It's not nailed down or weigh more than twice our own weight, so of course we need to try and loot it. Besides, the skeleton is using his fascist hand to hold it so he deserves to get robbed.

I vote to go over to the skeleton and take the parchment. Learning a new spell or getting vital hints is very welcome to our hero.

It doesn't say the skeleton is armored. The picture does, sort of, but that does not look like intact armor the PC could wear...much less automatically treat as an upgrade from his own armor.
Touching the parchment has precisely the effect you had feared. The skeleton lurches forward and, rising from its chair in a series of jerky movements, raises its sword to strike you. Lunging sideways, you draw your sword to defend yourself.
SKELETON WARRIOR Skill 8 Stamina 6
Round One: Hai Tien 19, Skeleton Warrior 17. Skeleton Warrior Stamina 4.
Round Two: Hai Tien 19, Skeleton Warrior 12. Skeleton Warrior Stamina 2.
Round Three: Hai Tien 19, Skeleton Warrior 15. Flawless victory.
Once again you reach for the parchment, only this iime it is lying amidst a pile of broken bones. Unfolding it, you see a map of a room with a drawing of a hideous creature inside it. Beneath the monster is a rhyme which reads:
You fold up the piece of parchment and put it in your backpack. Repeating the rhyme over and over to yourself, you walk across to the alcove.
At the back of the alcove are some steps leading down into a cellar. Cobwebs brush your face as you descend. The cellar ceiling is quite low, and the floor is strewn with rubbish and debris. In the middle of the wall opposite you is an archway which leads into another crystal lit tunnel. There are large mushrooms growing on the rubbish to your right.
Step through the archway?
Eat some of the mushrooms?

Re: [Let's Play] Fighting Fantasy 6: Deathtrap Dungeon Redux
Our hero's name is Hai Tien, not Mario Mario, so mushrooms are not good for him. I vote to step through the archway.

I look forward to naming our next hero Mario Mario just to hold you to your word.

The funnel continues west for several hundred metres, finally ending at some steps leading up to a closed trapdoor. You climb the steps slowly, hearing muffled voices above you. In the dim light you can see that the trapdoor is not locked.
Burst through the trapdoor with your sword drawn?
Knock on the trapdoor?

Burst through. If whomever up there is hostile its going to be very difficult to get through if they're defending from the high ground once they know we're here.

I vote to burst through the trapdoor, as the voices are probably enemies, and I would very much like to have the element of surprise here.

Re: [Let's Play] Fighting Fantasy 6: Deathtrap Dungeon Redux
Bursting through the trapdoor wins 4-1.
You throw the trapdoor open and run up the steps into a bright, lantern-lit room. Two GOBLINS are sharpening their short swords on a stone set in the middle of the floor. You catch them momentarily off guard, but they quickly recover and both rush forward to attack you.
First GOBLIN Skill 5 Stamina 4
Second GOBLIN Skill 5 Stamina 5
Both Goblins will have a separate attack on you in each Attack Round, but you must choose which of the two you will fight. Attack your chosen Goblin as in a normal battle. Against the other you must throw for your Attack Strength in the normal way, but even if your Attack Strength is greater you will not wound it. You must just count this as though you have defended yourself against its blow. However, if its Attack Strength is greater, it will have wounded you in the normal way.
(It's actually lucky the book spelled out the rules there, because I was thinking the PC made one roll per round, not two.)
Round One: Hai Tien 17 vs. Goblin One (target), Goblin One 12. Hai Tien vs. Goblin Two (defending) 17, Goblin Two 11. Goblin One is at 2 Stamina.
Round Two: Hai Tien 14 vs. Goblin One (target), Goblin One 10. Hai Tien vs. Goblin Two (defending) 17, Goblin Two 8. Goblin One is dead.
Round Three: Hai Tien 21, Goblin Two 12. Goblin Two is at 3 Stamina.
Round Four: Hai Tien 20, Goblin Two 12. Goblin Two is at 1 Stamina.
Round Five: Hai Tien 21, Goblin Two 11. Flawless victory.
The only furniture in the Goblins' room is a table, two chairs and a cupboard on the wall. There are two closed doors, one in the west wall and the other in the north wall.
Open the cupboard?
Open the west door?
Open the north door?

(Incidentally, looking at the mirror you did not quite reach recently is death, eating the mushrooms is death, and knocking on the trapdoor is death because the goblins shine a blinding light in your face and stab you in the throat while you're trying to figure out what opened the trap door.)

I restate my vote to check out the north door, just so Hai Tien cannot be called an extremist.
