So I think the question is a bit off-base. Just because people don't like getting KO'd or vomiting doesn't mean that they will enjoy padded sparring more than unprotected boxing.
I feel like I should be constructing a strawman about you wanting everyone else to get punched in the goddamned face or something, but honestly, even the metaphor has nonzero resonance. When I was regularly larping, while safety precautions against serious injuries were a given, getting bruised by the odd swing or bad fall was part of the experience as far as I was concerned.

This led to issues with others, notably someone who stopped the game because they didn't like that my vicious orc warrior wouldn't let them get back up before finishing them off.

As for the actual topic, I tend to enjoy statting/concepting enough to have a backup sheet plausibly ready in a regular game, and I wouldn't find it unreasonable to ask other people to do likewise once people are settled in.

What about it made it good and fun (climatic, meaningful, excuse to introduce a new character, etc.)?
Star Wars D6 character rolled badly and fell to the Dark Side. GM allowed me to keep playing him in an attempt to redeem himself. He died in the process, saving another character's life to boot.
