The future is an x86 piece of hardware running a hypervisor that runs some virtual machines. The actual OS makes little difference, they'll all co-oexist happily on a proper hypervisor, pick the on that runs the app you want.

Oracle is actually shooting themselves in the foot here, they want you to pay for enough processor licenses for every socket on the ESX host running the hypervisor, as opposed to the number of processors actually granted to the VM. We also couldn't get a straight answer out of them as to whether ESX clustering counts as clustering as far as their licensing is concerned. Noone wants crappy physical servers anymore, even MS has certified Windows on ESX.

Yes, the vendors really haven't caught up with virtualisation as a reality yet.
