I learned that as much as I think conservatives hold on to some really weird denialism, they think the same of me.
Yet again, I went to conservapedia (I keep convincing myself that I want to read up on an opposing view point to learn more on the issue, then I close my browser after about two minutes of crazy. I think I'm a masochist), and was looking up cognitive dissonance. They had a two paragraph short write-up with some expected right-leaning examples. Then I saw a link to denial, and thought "How ironic. What's conservapedia got to say on this subject?" I clicked the link and was redirected to "Liberal Denial" and laughed. I made it through the top three or so examples before I had to close the browser.
For example: I had no idea that there is wide-spread belief that Castro's been dead for years since his surgery. Like, at all. I didn't know people believed this stuff. I guess I'm in denial.

It's entirely possible the head of North Korea is totally incapacitated by strokes and the tiny group that runs the country has no idea what to do, and no-one else is doing anything because they don't know what's going on and indeed could be shot for the crime of talking to their co-workers, so it's certainly POSSIBLE that right now conspiracies like that are happening.
Just it's not likely in Cuba. Though there was certainly a time after the surgery where it was possible.

I learned today that my parents now believe that vaccines cause autism and that we should stop vaccinating children and let "natural selection sort it out" like whenever they were growing up. They also believe that "foreigners from third world countries" are the source of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
Yeah. The irony of this does not escape me. And it's depressing as fuck.

Fuck it. Get rid of ALL medical care. After natural selection runs its course, we will only have IMMORTAL DEIFIC BEINGS WHO DEFY ALL FORMS OF HARM left.Ganbare Gincun wrote:I learned today that my parents now believe that vaccines cause autism and that we should stop vaccinating children and let "natural selection sort it out" like whenever they were growing up.
Where are they getting these antibiotics (for the bacteria to "grow" resistant to, via the natural selection they acknowledge the existence of) from, being third-world? I was under the impression that poor countries were so poor that antibiotics are not in fact readily available. They also believe that "foreigners from third world countries" are the source of antibiotic resistant bacteria.
(Though good news on that: apparently, the next wave of antibiotics to fight the superbug is COCKROACH BRAINS! Yes, just eat cockroach brains! Though my penicillin-based antibiotics taste so bad that I'm not sure it would be that much worse.)

Actually, third-world countries are something of a breeding ground for resistant bacteria, because it's easier to get a partial course of treatment than a full course. Apparently, it's a pretty big problem with TB, because full treatment takes a very long time.

Apparently the NY Times denied "That girls and women in sports have debilitating ACL knee injuries at 3-4 times the rate of men, and are vulnerable to other injuries." by "downplaying the difference and pretending that no one knows why" 'cause dames shouldn't be playin' the man sports.
I learned two very important things today.
It's wet and cold outside. Colder than witch's tit even.
So even though I like rain and I love the cold, I do not enjoy being outside in shorts and bare-chested.

Hopefully it's better than homemade fudge. I've always preferred the store bought stuff.Maj wrote:I learned that making chocolate syrup is totally easy. I will never feel obligated to buy it ever again.
Yeah. There's a reason I could only stomach about two or three entries. Knee injuries are a fucking huge deal for female soccer players, and not something that should be ignored for some misguided sense of gender equality. Especially considering that women can be trained to use more muscle groups while kicking, and thereby reduce the chance of injury.

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa
1/4 cup cold water
Mix ingredients together in a double boiler (we use a glass mixing bowl in a pan full of water), stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved and it's hot all the way through. Something like five minutes.
It can be used to make chocolate milk, put on ice cream, whatever...

Ha! I went back to that page and found one of their last entries:
"That they make sweeping generalizations about Conservatives."
How ironic is that?
"Hey guys, lets make a bunch of generalizations about libruls and complain that they make generalizations about us!"

Most of it's only vaguely disturbing since accusing someone of denial instead of just, you know, disagreement means you are 100% convinced of your own correctness ... which Conservapedia people totally are, it's the sites raison d'être.
For example:
For example:
OK, I get that one in terms of it being a part of the pro-life platform.Liberals deny the very real existence of fetal pain during abortion.
WTF?Liberals deny they are liberal, and that most of the media are liberal.

If you're ultra-Conservative, almost everyone seems Liberal to you. Therefore, anybody 'in the middle' who claims to not be Liberal will seem to by lying.Sashi wrote:WTF?Liberals deny they are liberal, and that most of the media are liberal.

I know Right Wingers love to trot out that the Nazi party were National Socialists (the full name), which means they were Left Wing Socialists, and therefore Socialism means you're a Nazi.
Which is interesting, given the lack of actual Socialist elements. Apparently if I call myself a cheese sandwich then to the Right, I actually am a cheese sandwich despite any evidence to the contrary.
It explains their belief that a cracker turns into their saviour.

Nah, that's just Glenn Beck being loopy.Koumei wrote:I know Right Wingers love to trot out that the Nazi party were National Socialists (the full name), which means they were Left Wing Socialists, and therefore Socialism means you're a Nazi.
Strictly speaking though, the Nazis did actually practice a lot of Socialist policies (none of them directly related to mass-murder and genocide, hence disproving Socialists = Nazis) quite a bit. Which is quite ironic given that the whole point of Nazism was to counter Communism - which is an overtly Socialist form of government.
