Polite has the best avatar in the universe.

I didn't pick the system I use, the group switched so I switched with it. Fucking Pathfinder.

People may or may not have ever heard of Maelstrom or The Riddle of Steel, but virtually everyone who plays RPGs at all at least knows what Dungeons & Dragons is.
Yes, I'm apparently among that number, having learned about a couple older games this day, Maelstrom = realistic combat, already sounds like a wash for a game. Whereas, I'm curious in regards to how the "Riddle of Steel" holds up, if have any links, or explanation otherwise?

ok, dont use those two in the same sentence again, please.

but with all the d20 systems you prefer the D&D iconics or sacred cows is what you are saying?
Great day to blow ones mind, and you did say please, so I suppose I shall perhaps refrain. Would it help if I say "Facestab" + Rod of Lordly Might next time? (laughs)

Anyway, not so much "sacred cows", least ones that are just bad for design, like +1 swords, and attributes. I used to care about those, till I got past the part where that just some out of game aesthetic, that wasn't entirely good for long term entertainment, in the case of +x weapons/armor/items. Although did like how 3rd edition had tables comparing your attributes to other creatures in the world, it's nice in that aspect, similar of how can compare 18 int, being a genuis level, or said strength to being like Arnold Schwarzenegger in his prime (or just conan even). I think I do like the iconics yes, like the Beholder, Slaadi, mindflayers, all cool monsters adapted in other media, showing their place in the world of buttstabbings. Also like flavorful items in general, not as important, nor well known as the creatures of D&D for me, but still can enjoy flavorful item like the 3rd edition Sunblade, or..Rod of Lordly Might (always wanted one of those).

Don't really have "brand loyalty" nor feel D&D game should be limited by such, especially in advent of better design ideas. To my knowledge, one of the good D20 products out there, and don't know of any other D20 games that can suit high level fantasy better. If there was one better that came along, with actual working RNG, I think I would further lean towards that.
What I find wrong w/ 4th edition: "I want to stab dragons the size of a small keep with skin like supple adamantine and command over time and space to death with my longsword in head to head combat, but I want to be totally within realistic capabilities of a real human being!" --Caedrus mocking 4rries

"the thing about being Mister Cavern [DM], you don't blame players for how they play. That's like blaming the weather. Weather just is. You adapt to it. -Ancient History
