Sometimes it's hard for me to differentiate between music that's sad and makes me cry, and music that just makes me cry, but I went through a couple of my playlists and here's what I've got:

Pop-ish

America - The Last Unicorn
Backstreet Boys - Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely
Britney Spears - Born to Make You Happy
Bruno Mars - Grenade
Christina Aguilera - You Lost Me
Eric Clapton - Tears in Heaven
Evanescence - Even in Death
Evanescence - Missing
Evanescence - My Immortal
Evanescence - Secret Door
Everything But the Girl - Missing You
Green Day (w/the cast of American Idiot) - 21 Guns
Kelly Clarkson - Already Gone
Leona Lewis - Homeless
Leona Lewis - Take a Bow
Loona - Hijo de la Luna
Madonna - Frozen
Mariah Carey - I Don't Wanna Cry
Mariah Carey - My All
Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men - One Sweet Day
Miguel (w/J Cole) - All I Want Is You
Muse - Hoodoo
Olive - Safer Hands
PM Dawn - I'd Die Without You
Rihanna - Unfaithful
Shakespear's Sister - Stay
One Republic (w/Timbaland) - Apologize
Toni Braxton - Unbreak My Heart
VAST - Lady of Dreams (Instrumental)
VAST - Lost
VAST - We Will Meet Again
X Japan - Unfinished

Classical-ish

Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata
Dhol Foundation - Simply H
Giovanni Sollima - Alquilarco #8 (Aria)
Giovanni Battista Pergolesi - Stabat Mater Dolorosa
Grieg - Death of Ase
Keiko Matsui - Whisper From the Mirror
Mozart - Piano Concerto #23 (Andante)
Toshiro Masuda (Naruto Soundtrack) - Sadness and Sorrow
Sarah Brightman - Adagio de Albinoni

And now I will go listen to anything but this so I can stop crying.

:maj:
My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.

Huh. I don't actually think of this version as sad, exactly, more... enduring. The end in particular hits a rather triumphant note, at least to me.

That said, it is amazing next to the NIN version. One has some kid shrieking about whatever, and Cash has actual emotion.

Concrete Blonde - Tommorrow Wendy an easy tear-jerker about a friend dying of AIDs.
Without that context, however (which doesn't come up in the song), it is more about spitting in god's eye, which makes the song sound more defiant than sad.
Damn near anything by Joy Divison or This Mortal Coil
Hrmm. I think TMC's saddest song is actually the 'The Jeweller'. Low key illustration of frustration and futility in human endeavors.

And I'm just going to eye Maj oddly for listing Stay as even vaguely sad. I'd call it triumphantly romantic.

Though I have to admit that I tend to have a skewed view of songs, since I go entirely by how they sound and what the words are. Video interpretation and what the writer says they are about is something that I pay no attention to, and very rarely even see.

This occasionally leads to some very awkward conversations, and left me fairly convinced that Eric Clapton was a pedophile, after finding out 'Tears in Heaven' was about his kid, rather than the love song it sounded like.

VNV Nation: As it fades, Gratitude (the kind of tunes that's not sad.. as long as you're not in the wrong mood).

Nat King Cole: Unforgettable (likewise).

City of Lost Children OST: Generique, Miette.

Enio Morricone: Addio Monti, Once Upon a Time in the West (as played by Bruce Springsteen).

Tomaso Albinoni: Adagio in G minor.

Placebo: Sleeping with Ghosts (just pick any, I don't remember a happy note in that album).

U2: When you look at the World.

Chris Cornell: Ave Maria.

Temple of the Dog: Say Hello to Heaven.

Dinah Washington: This Bitter Earth and On the nature of Daylight (from Shutter Island OST).

Michael Jackson: You are not alone.

Pearl Jam: Black.

Mumford and Sons make me cry, but not for the reason you're thinking.
They're terrible.

I love 'em. I mean, sure, they only sing one song through two tracks worth of albums, but they play it well.

They're not good artists, but so far as one-trick ponies go I feel they do it very, very well.
