it basically usually goes like this:
look around: nobody there.
look around: nobody there.
look around: ooh somebody with his back to me!
look around: nobody else in sight, silent take down!
and then i get shot in the back usually . .

So I'm guessing I should grab Deus Ex sometime this weekend?
Because I caught myself looking at Castlevania: Lords of Shadow on my shelf with an eye towards finishing it, and decided that I was going to stab myself in the hand before I try another God of War clone for a while. L.A. Noire, while an interesting concept and actually felt like playing a cop, proved being a cop is mostly boring. And I feel like a total pariah, but I can't maintain interest in Fallout 3.

Yes, you should be getting Deus Ex Human Revolution.

Maybe you should invest in Mark @ Track, and get a view of everyone before you do anything.
I would always take note of everyone's location, and choose the best assault path, but that's made a lot easier by always taking the vent/roof/obscure climbing puzzle/sewer entrance over a standard entrance, getting behind them, and then taking them out in reverse order.

May want to spend a bit more time looking around then, and probably looking up too. If you have praxis laying around you might want to get the vision cones, extended radar, and see through walls enhancements. You don't need them, but if you're not used to the type of stealth in the game those will help train you.
The social mod is also helpful if you're routinely failing the social stuff, since you can undo an early screw up and end in the middle for a retry.

yeah, i'll probably restart on not hard as fuck(deus ex) to get a crosshair and then use the first praxis to get me the pheromone thingie or however that's called . . hope this will help with some of my issues <.<

Picked DE up myself.
So, okay. Anything I should know? I've already determined that how long you take to do things can affect what happens. Not too concerned about that.
Augments, though. I see swords and gun arms and seeing-through-walls in the trailers. So what're the toys to play with, in general terms?

Hacking and cloaking are always useful. Breaking walls with your fists and jumping high is handy. The upgraded version of the typhoon will kills bosses pretty easily. Other than that you may as well save praxis for when you come to something and you think an ability would be handy.

Ooh, cool.
So what about weapons? I assume you can get some things to keep permanently. I'm curious on that point, and can't really play the game -right- yet because the whole house is opened up to let a breeze in and other people are sleeping.

It depends on how you want to play the game, you get more XP for non-lethal takedowns so I always have the stun gun and tranquilizer rifle in my inventory (speaking of which, the inventory upgrades are useful too when you begin to carry stuff and have a hard time deciding what to get rid of). You get the most XP for actually taking them down with your hand to hand ability and the double person take down upgrade can be very useful in some situations.
As far as actual weapons go, upgrading the revolver as much as possible is pretty fun and effective. Honestly though you really only need to kill the bosses and I did that with the Typhoon and occasionally the grenade launcher (might be a pre-order only weapon I can't remember). If you want to just mow down the opposition you can pretty much pick what you want. I never used the combat rifle but you can apparently upgrade it to shoot mini-missiles so that would probably work pretty well against anything.

First playthrough was all stealth, never even fired a shot except in boss fights, every enemy can be takendown with non lethal and patterns.
If going for that, get all hackings, doubletakedown, and then mobility powers and cloak in whatever order fits. If you get ghost pretty much every time, you can have every mobility power and full hacking capture and stealth by the finish of the first boss fight.
Also get cloak, because that makes several double takedowns much easier.
Typhoon level 2 makes all non Barret boss fights way the fuck easier.
No real advice for combat centric, but fully upgraded pistol is the best for ammo to dead guy conversion rate (including how much ammo you can find), Combat Rifle and revolver are close seconds.

So, okay, playing Deus Ex and trying to go stealthy feels like Batman: Arkham Asylum, without the grappling line and without the entertaining commentary of the mooks freaking the fuck out because they just found someone's unconscious body.
This is not a bad thing.

I think you'll appreciate today's
Penny Arcade.

It was on this hunch that I keep at least one kind of lethal weapon and a substantial amount of ammo in my equipment.
I'm having more fun treating it as a stealth game, although Guns Blazing would be an interesting way to try it.
Also, sidequest mania right now. I hit the streets of Detroit last night and get to wander around giving homeless acquaintances beer and money, and hit on officers of the law because they happen to be dressed like hookers.
Also, fuck, the big prosthetics company needs to pay their executives a bit more. Or maybe endear themselves to the public by paying for city garbage pickup.
Anyway, I have my points...got Hacking 2, probably going to Hack 3. I maxed out the Stealth Hacking tree because, fuck man, I have terrible luck about triggering hacking alarms. And I shelled out for another energy cell and the social augment. Thus far I do sneaky work by dint of being kinda good at the stealth gameplay and possessed of the patience of a kindergarten teacher when I'm doing something I enjoy. Like picking off a room full of people one person at a time.

which is, actually, disgustingly easy at times, because the AI can be kinda dumb in certain situations . . shoot somebody in the head, he falls down. next npc comes right under your sights with his head . . you don't even have to change your crosshairs location . .

I realized this. Which I why I do it ground level, with takedowns. Looking forward to a laser sight for my tranquilizer rifle.

There's a friend of mine who played one of the Metal Gear Solid games thus:
He'd get in the box in the middle of a room where guards passed through regularly.
When a guard was in the room, he'd twitch the control stick so the box went 'shuffle-shuffle', then stay still.
The guard would come over to investigate, and after a moment, my friend would pop out, break the guard's neck, and re-box.
So eventually a guard would come into the room and find a cardboard box surrounded by about twenty dead bodies.
And the box would go 'shuffle-shuffle'.

Getting Human Revolution right now. I think my first run will be all, "My arm is a gun. Your defenses are invalid"

If you shoot mooks with the tranq rifle they'll sometimes die rather than just be knocked unconscious. This may or may not be a glitch. So if you're going for being as non-lethal as possible you'll want to keep that in mind.

Not sure how much that can be done.
I mean, I'm keeping a tranq rifle and a handgun that I'm just happening to pour every kind of upgrade that I find for it. Thus far, it's silenced, laser-sight, armor-piercing, and has a damage and rate of fire upgrade on it.
I keep feeling like I should run across a box of EMP bullets or something. If this was bioshock, this would be the case.

All Cameras are to be snuck around, and then disabled. All bots are to be hacked, or EMP grenaded, or avoided by never setting off alarms.
PS, stealth gunning is only really viable with the Pistol, I have no idea why, but Pistol is only Silenced weapon that can one shot kill people.

My murder run is running into a bit of a snag in the police station, because I decided not to kill police officers and don't have non-lethal weaponry. Out of sheer frustration I made an attempt at killing everyone in my path, and it actually succeeded until I walked out the front door.

I managed it with the non-lethal takedowns and picking my moments.
I
am looking forward to the murder run.

Is part of your murder run not sweet talking the guard? Or did you just fail?
I recommend coming in by the roof, timing your takedowns on single individuals (unfortunately, they all have to be non lethal because of the silly decision that lethals make more noise, I can't think of a single reason to ever use lethal takedowns other than because you want to be a murderer) spending most of your time in the vents, and getting the stuff you need directly, and not loitering.

I screwed up the sweet talking.
Current situation: I'm on the second floor, every guard on the second floor is incapacitated, all bodies on higher floors are hidden. I have no goddamn idea how to get past the gigantic room of police officers in front of computers without getting noticed.
I have been trying jumping down and sprinting to the elevator, but then there's like six guys on the morgue level and no easy way to pick them off one by one. Now, my level-3 dermal armor and general FPS deadeye aim would make slaughtering the lot of them trivial, but I am trying to get through this without doing that.

The thing is, stunned targets can be woken up by an ally. Dead ones can't. Personally, I mostly stuck with non-lethal weapons, if only because all of them are silenced.
