Aside from the "kaum gestohlen, schon in Polen" thing there is actually a kind of sort of respect for the poles in germany . .
The winges hussars were a very formidable fighting force and the Battle of Wizna was quite an impressive feat as well.
Even though it was an unprovoked surprise attack, the poles in the mind of many germans, offered more resistance than france did.
Nobody ever called the poles surrendermonkeys.
The slavs/eastern cultures generally are held in higher regard in germany than the more southern ones i think.
In my experience, germans are more jealous and thus maybe a bit more hostile to the countries around the medditerrane area.
Both the (if maybe grudging) respect for the eastern and slavish countries and the jelousy of the mediterrane area at large might be due to the weather being nicer there than it is in germany. despite germany having had 40° celsius (108°f) last month, germany is seen, by and large, as a more cold and rainy country with greyish drab weather by many.

A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. Probably due to thick accents and Poles usually being catholic. These aren't things that most Europeans would comment on, but in America did make them looked down upon.Shatner wrote:Well, in the US (or at least, the southern US) there's the stereotype of the dumb polack, which serves as the foundation for a bewildering number of jokes. There's also the joke about German*, Polish and Russian* scientists performing a study to determine the purpose of the head of the dick- The Germans determined it was to provide more pleasure to the man during sex, the Russians determined it was to provide more pleasure for the woman during sex, and the Poles determined it was so the man's hand wouldn't fly off while masturbating and hit him in the head.**
*Or whatever your favorite ethnicities are.
**There wasn't a lot to do on the internet in it's early stages, I looked up dirty jokes.
There's also the Siege of Vienna, where the Ottoman king only bothered to surround the town with cannons on three sides because the fourth is mountainous and "who the fuck is going to drive an army through mountains, it's the 15-fuckins-00s!"Stahlseele wrote:Aside from the "kaum gestohlen, schon in Polen" thing there is actually a kind of sort of respect for the poles in germany . .

The Poles, that's fucking who. They rode right through the unprotected mountains and freed Vienna before the Ottomans could turn their cannons around in shit-filled trousers.

wikipedia provides some history of the "polish joke":

It's not pretty, but it is a part of American culture.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."

That joke is kind of weird for me, because my wife's grandfather and great uncle were literally guards that died in a concentration camp.Count Arioch the 28th wrote:I'm not sure I'd be cool with offensive German humor, as I had a great uncle that died in a concentration camp. Yeah, it's like the growing up Hispanic things I posted. I am Italian and Polish by descent, and spent a lot of time at my grandmother on the Italian side of the family's house, and I related to a number of those. The cookie/margarine thing shows up in both. Some of the Black things are because of neighbourhood, I'm sure, but I think a lot of these are an income thing.

I was linked this by a goon I know. I saved it.
I hereby propose this be the Universal Warning Label, on the basis that this is as attention-grabbing as a vicegrip applied to one's sexual organs.
I can't tell what's going on here, but I can indeed see that it is no good thing. Anyone who can impart information that can keep it from happening to me will have my full and respectful attention.

He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.
