Childhood pneumonia sucks, and you're lucky to have discovered it quickly--regardless of the professionals acting unprofessionally. With luck your kid won't have to have nightmares (and/or the resulting fetishes) of being beaten by nurses.
A tangent, but yesterday a friend who works as a translator told me about how hospitals would try to cheat non-English speaking patients. One example was charging for three canisters of oral anesthetic when only a single spray from one canister was used. Apparently this sort of fraud was routine.

Working with nurses as much as I do, I have fostered no small amount of contempt for them. I've been typing and erasing posts over and over and I'll try to just stick to a couple things without raging.
1) I'm glad you caught it so early Maj, and I hope everyone does well.
2) The US Patient Bill of Rights grants that anyone can refuse any medical treatment even from their doctor. So the RN (I presume) who threatened CPS was likely full of shit. Still it is bad enough to be in a hospital for doing the right thing and then being threatened. Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer.

I have done a tally, and according to a number of people, I am responsible for the demise of no fewer than 3 message boards.
I really wish I had the powers that are attributed to me some days, I really do.

I'm curious: which three?
I've had a similar issue back when I used to be a dishwasher. It was minutes before close, and I made some comment to several people how it would suck if a bus of people came right before we closed, and I was told I'd better not have jynxed it. And, of course, I wouldn't be telling you this story if a bus of people didn't come.
So, right after the bus came, everyone was actually yelling at me for causing it! I'm sure some of them were joking, but I got the impression that one or two of them think I actually magically conjured a bus, or perhaps mentally controlled the bus driver or something.
I think I followed that up with something to the effect of "wouldn't it suck if I won the lottery?". Magic powers, my ass!

I've been blamed for killing the WotC manure mature forums, I've been blamed for killing BG (although they seem to have gotten better), and I have a large number of former nifty people blaming me for killing nifty. (And people wonder why I'm friends with so few former nifty people).
EDIT: I really don't understand any of the hate, I'm far from the most disruptive posters on any of the boards I'm on. I'm not trying to act like an innocent here; I've pulled more than my share of shenanigans. But I was far from the worst poster on any of the forums I was on.

BG? Really? What the hell do they think you did? That place has had people solid for nearly three years.

My memory's fuzzy, but I don't recall it being you who destroyed the Mature boards. The destruction of those boards was due to a number of complex factors including a conflicting mission statement and a love hate relationship with the boards on the part of the moderators.
Ironically, the most mature board WoTC ever had came later and that was a brief period during the early months of Astrid's Parlor. Even that didn't last long.
What's BG?
You certainly didn't kill Nifty. The sad truth is that most of the Niftyites just stopped playing the game and they stopped talking about it. As people drifted to the four corners of the continential United States it became harder to just even meet together for Gen Con. Everything then faded away. No one person killed Nifty.

BG = Brilliantgameologits
That's the forum for a gaming podcast run by several people, including Meg (WizO_Autumn) from the old WotC boards.

No person killed Nifty. When they did the changeover, the board just died a slow-ish death. Not really that slow, really. It just sort of stopped and never restarted.tzor wrote: You certainly didn't kill Nifty. The sad truth is that most of the Niftyites just stopped playing the game and they stopped talking about it. I think Mature died because it was not viable for its environment (I was surprised it ever existed at all!). Only a matter of time before someone figured out that a mature forum brought more grief than good for the corporation.
Nifty kinda just petered out, largely for not being as light-handed with its moderation as TGD.
I never touched BG, but if someone is blaming you for killing it, why has it not had the courtesy to die yet?
I thus absolve you of any charges of forumicide Count.

Hmm.... pretty girl contacts me online... friend lines up an interview for me with her work where there's a 50% chance she'll be the one interviewing me... job is mostly customer service (which I'm surprisingly good at)... and I can get out to the interview in a single hop on the bus after class tomorrow.
I wish I were psychologically equipped to believe this is all a sign from someone that everything'll take a turn for the better, but sadly I'm more psychologically equipped to believe it's just the universe dangling a carrot in front of me before snatching it away and bashing me over the head...

The Mature forums needed to die. I recall one thread where people were discussing the need to puncture a nymph's hymen with a cold iron staff so a human could properly pleasure her.

Of course there were also the psuedo-erotic rp threads too...

I remember the cybering. the thing is, adult RP was against the rules of the mature forum, they were meant for the discussion of books in the Mature Readers Only line (which consists of the Book of VD and the Book of Exalted Furries). So, I reported said threads and sent polite emails to the thread starters. I was rebuffed rudely by the posters and ignored by BG Meg/WizO Autumn/Marzi/whoever she is right now.
I then posted a thread on the meat board expressing my concern that this was going on.
A later corporate decision was made and that the Mature line would not be continued into 4E. It was literally lost in the board restructuring, it was just lost in the first phase.
To this day, I get harassed by people on D&D message boards about killing the Mature forums. Which is why as a rule I don't join D&D message boards anymore.

Funny how that happens.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

I don't think I ever gave a proper shout-out, but K's advice about college, mostly the part about no one knowing what the hell they're talking about was the only good advice I've ever gotten in regards to college.
The current plan is (after speaking to someone who represents the college I want to go into) that I will be accepted regardless of the fact I am not a great student if I can retake my lit courses and get higher than a "D" on both of them. We shall see if I can hack it.
Although to be perfectly honest, I don't think I'll succeed because I still don't know what the fuck I'm actually doing. Do not get me wrong, I don't intend to quit until they escort me from the premises, but I just can't see how I'm going to pay for it (they have threatened to take away my financial aid twice this semester alone). Also, I don't know the forms, appointments, and secret handshakes it takes to get a degree, this is all so confusing and alien to me.
Still, in my heart I feel I'm destined to be a minimum wage retail drone my entire life. I'm not some super-genius like Frank or K and can't make a living based on intellect, and I can't get hired back in the trade I know. (I've interviewed several times trying to get into Wastewater Treatment. I hated the work but at least I could pay my bills. One told me to get out of his office and go back to wal-Mart, the other went off on me for what seemed like a long time about how I am committing a felony by saying I have a valid license.)

I'm sorry, Count...

In better news... We're home! We actually got home late Tuesday, but spent yesterday recuperating from the trip. Two things I have learned:
[*]Hospitals are not good places to convalesce. Sleep is seriously one of the best things you can do for yourself, and a hospital is no way to get it. Fight for it if you're there.
[*]Health care workers need more sleep. It will help their attitudes, their memories, and their decision-making skills. It has never ceased to amaze me how people who are responsible for disseminating health care advice always seem to be running on coffee because they haven't slept well.

I'm drinking the most delicious smoothie right now. Peach yogurt + orange juice + an orange + a bit of vanilla ice cream + a handful of ice cubes. I figured you guys would like to know how good it is.

I can see how 12 hour shifts promote greater continuity for patients. Shorter shifts would require better communication, and the only place I saw good communication was with the staff in the ER.Robby Pants wrote:I can't imagine 12 hour shifts help anything either.

From a shift working perspective, it's much nicer doing 3 on/4 off/4 on/3 off than the alternative 7 or 8 hour shifts. You get some time to get over the swaps between afternoon/night and morning shifts.Maj wrote:I can see how 12 hour shifts promote greater continuity for patients. There aren't any secret handshakes or anything like that.
