I think what happened was I was misreading TurboTax, and not realizing it was tell me what I owed. So the $600 change was a good thing

I've been more stressed out than usual since January. A person who worked in another group but the same office as me became my supervisor. She didn't like me in part (I'm usually good about being polite in person, but I've probably laughed at some of her ideas that I thought were actually jokes) because she took over a project from me without notifying anyone, and screwed it up badly enough that city council (I work for a city water utility) got involved, and yelled at me and then my supervisor for a bit over a week. Their major complaint was that if she was this incompetent, she shouldn't be employed by anyone, especially us. Eventually we got the complaint forwarded to our manager, but he liked her and put her in charge of the project. Now she's trying to prove I'm insubordinate.
She also wears a lot of perfume. Her section of the office is far less pleasant for me to go near than the perfume places at the mall. I'm home early today because I was hospitalized after an asthma attack. EMS was also called out Friday 2 weeks ago for another set of asthma attacks. With the medicine (inhaler and a steroid shot) I've mostly recovered in 4 hours. The feeling in my arms has come back, but I'm still a bit short of breath. Prior to her, I haven't had serious asthma problems (some headaches or coughing from perfumes, but those can normally be avoided) in about 30 years.
The good new is, she makes bad decisions so I can show retaliation (and also that I've been hospitalized), so they'll probably move me to a different work group to take care of the problem. The bad news is I've got to deal with her until I get moved. No advice needed, just needed to talk.

When i had to work with such a perfume monstrosity, i got myself a painters mask with filter in it and made a big show of putting it on every time she came close to me or i had to go to her.

Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.
I've got a beard, so I need a gas mask and petroleum jelly. Somehow I expect she'd complain to HR about that as well.Stahlseele wrote:When i had to work with such a perfume monstrosity, i got myself a painters mask with filter in it and made a big show of putting it on every time she came close to me or i had to go to her.
"You hospitalized me, EMS has shown up twice in 3 weeks, and I need my emergency inhaler about 4x per week." No big deal. "You running away coughing means you don't listen to my brilliant ideas." Insubordination. Remember, HR is only there to protect management from employees.

Shit like this is why "don't kill [supervisor]" is a to-do item in my Habitica.

I wouldn't go that far, in the general case HR is there to protect the company's interests rather than necessarily the interests of the people in management. Part of their job is to retain useful assets even if doing so means shouting at management.Iduno wrote:I've got a beard, so I need a gas mask and petroleum jelly. But then I rather assume HR is already involved at this point and aren't enforcing the company's interests over the manager's shitness.

Every story about dueling culture ever conceived all agrees that what you get is you get like 12 assholes who are really good at dueling who use that to be super fucking rude assholes to everyone else who have to be super polite to them.
Unlike stories, in reality, plucky heroes rarely magically show up to put them in place, so what you probably actually get is just you know, classed societies where rich people are rude assholes and poor people are forced to be lickspittles to those assholes.

The only reason duels seem like a good idea is because the little guy would be able to gain a temporary advantage through the sudden upset in power dynamics. If you woke up tomorrow and duels were suddenly the way of law and tradition with nothing else immediately offered, you could go challenge your manager to a fight and beat the piss out of them, but tomorrow there'd be mercenary champions wearing bear shirts and accepting every duel issued to anyone who could afford their services to beat and/or kill the Hell out of any challengers.

It can't hurt to ask. Preferably right at the start of the trip or right before there are no witnesses to protect you.RobbyPants wrote:My wife and I are visiting her sister. She probably doesn't want me doing that...Stahlseele wrote:Don't wanna be an adulterer eh?
Honor tends to benefit the people in charge. Weird accidents (slipped and fell on a scissors 12 times, hitting several organs) are what happens to despots. Also, people who challenge popular authority or ask their wives if it's okay to sleep with the wife's sister. I forget where I was going with that, but force benefits people who are already in control, because they can bring more force to bear.[/whisper]Kaelik wrote: Every story about dueling culture ever conceived all agrees that what you get is you get like 12 assholes who are really good at dueling who use that to be super fucking rude assholes to everyone else who have to be super polite to them.

That's why I favor the "hit someone with a big rock then run" approach in lieu of dueling. I already have brain damage so I feel that gives me an advantage because I have less to lose than most.

So, within the next week (or three), I will be biking the 335 mile C&O + GAP route from DC to PGH (or maybe the other way around).
So:
1. Any suggestions to add to this year's motivational music playlist?
2. And are there any Denizens within a short pedal of the trail who'd want to see about grabbing a meal together or something? If so, shoot me a PM.

"But transportation issues are social-justice issues. The toll of bad transit policies and worse infrastructure—trains and buses that don’t run well and badly serve low-income neighborhoods, vehicular traffic that pollutes the environment and endangers the lives of cyclists and pedestrians—is borne disproportionately by black and brown communities."
I'd take ya up on it if I was on the route, but that'd be a pretty funky (and much longer) path if you cut through Indianapolis.
So I'll add a few songs for the play list from various OPM AMV that I left open on browser 'tabs' on my phone.
Mischa "Book Chillak feat Esthero - Ready Or Not
Hollywood Undead - Whatever It Takes
Offspring - You're Gonna Go Far, Kid

Hrm, well Pgh to Indy would be an equivalent distance, but would be much harder route planning and logistical support. So not this year, but maybe in a couple years I'll try a bike tour that way.
But for now those tracks are spot on, thanks.

I wonder if homophobic and transphobic people are fans of weird fetish porn?
Here me out, I consume (and occasionally produce) weird porn, and I've noticed a trend: a disproportionate number of gay male content. Like, despite being 10%of the population it could be 50-70% of the content. I also noticed that weird porn websites that separate male and female content have to police the female side or else it will be obese men masturbating all the way down within a week.
Basically, weird porn is the only time I see gays taking over and 60 year old men trying to trick me into thinking they're women. Therefore I submit that homophobic and transphobic people are just angry over their ruined boners during fap time.

I don't know where you're getting your weird fetish porn, but I'm a connoisseur of Hentai and although there's plenty of fetish stuff in there, at the end of the day (mature male) dick on (mature female) vagina is still the majority of stuff being produced for quite some time now.
I guess your experience is more of a sign of how easy it is for 60 year old fat men to troll over the internet nowadays that amateur recording is cheap and easy. In the case of hentai you need to actually make an effort to draw/photoshop something. Or maybe hentai sites just have better policing.
