It's an apples and oranges situation and in any case I don't have a problem with calling porn pretty vapid. I posit that you can present something without attempting to make a convincing argument for it. Most pornography falls under this category since porno is generally pretty lazy stuff from a purely creative standpoint. So if your goal is to slander pizza guys, then I'd say making a porno along the lines you just described is a pretty laughably shitty way of going about it. Likewise I think Terry Goodkind's use of rape and sexuality is a pretty piss poor way of attacking the ideologies he so obviously disagrees with.fectin wrote: First was on your point, and that you shouldn't read too much into porn. I mean, it's also slanderous to pizza delivery guys that they are portrayed as so ready to take advantage of women so destitute they can't even afford a tip. Furthermore, and I dont know if you've noticed this, but they often don't wait for explicit consent before acting: that's rape propaganda right there. Seriously though? It's porn. Don't get your panties in a twist.

I nearly forgot about your second point. I'm not really a big fan of fantasy fiction in general, actually, and I do suspect that part of the reason is that fantasy authors are often big on world-building but then undermine the sweep and scale of their worlds by having one dude waltz in and change everything.

Okay. That's fair. Here's a less ridiculous example:

Never watched it, but my knee jerk reaction when I first heard about it was to disapprove. Is it an effective argument against Palin or even intended as such? My guess is probably not; I can easily buy the notion that some production company just wanted to cash in on the novelty. It just hits me as mercenary, really, and while I don't really believe in censorship I do suspect that the work itself probably does more harm than good given that I think it's a reminder of how relentlessly women are objectified in our culture, particularly if they are perceived to be dumb or failures. Off the top of my head I can't think of any particular reason to justify its existence, aside from maybe giving Lisa Ann a career boost.
