yes, you do. it gives credit where credit is due, rather than stealing the copyrighted images of other people. Frank jsut does a "copy image location" from google where he searches the web for the image and pastes mountains of shit into the TGD database to be able to display the image as a mime-type base-64 encoded image.

his post is claiming those are HIS images, rather than the site he took them from that he found on google, as well as just helping make the tables in TGD bigger. so everyone wants to start paying to use TGD or have ads all over the place or see it shut down when F has to pay for more storage space because Frank can't use a fucking 30 character URL, but instead uses 3000 characters to store the 16k images in the post itself?

Zherog actually needs to disable those mine-types from displaying under the IMG tag.

you claim you don't know what you will get with a link, well then only hotlink images that allow you to do so like from botophucket or tinypic or something. then you know what the bandwidth limit image will look like.

also... Frank is stealing google's code while he is at it. those compressed image "links" he is using as a mime-type are encoded BY google and is THEIR property.

copyright infringement on the images themselves, code theft....

yeah.. hotlink from places that allow it and want the traffic back to them.

of course, if you can host it yourself then you do that. Frank could have taken a picture of the books, posted to a botophucket account, and just grabbed the link it gave.

@Voss:

hard to read in the preview section so if i copy/paste something wrong order, well i will jsut respond to whatever i paste from below it...
Your list of of 'core books' for 2nd edition is really surprising, actually. It is certainly a larger list than anything I've ever seen before.
Core Rules is the software. the name was taken from popular use to mean PHB, DMG, MM. A&E didnt really do anything except expand the equipment back to 1e levels, and "Tome of Magic" just gave a bunch of spells and stuff like 1E. those were the 1e equivalent of caster and non-caster books to upgrade your character beyond the PHB.

the rest is what WotC added to the software.

MY list would only be PHB, DMG, MM as core rules, but do accept A&E guide into that as it is innocuous for the most part. obviously discard firearms and blackpowder ANYWHERE you dont want it in your game, from the PHB included.

ToM wrote:The Tome of Magic is written with both the DM and player in mind. Dungeon Masters who keep this book out the hands of their players are doing their game a disservice. Likewise, players who want this book only to learn about the new magical items are missing the point. Both player and DM can use this book to improve and expand the game.

1st never really had class groups. it just had a bunch of classes, and some followed XP tables of one or class abilities form another, etc.

the assassin used thief tables, but wasnt a thief in 1e.

cant get to my 1e books right now because a shelf blocks them, but will double check how it is broken down, but in 1e and BD&D it is the same, either loose groups or just individual classes (mage and illusionist are 2 classes not one wizard class)

Your last post, including quotes, contained 3340 characters. Your rant about the image took up more space than the image itself. If you're really so concerned about TGD's hosting woes, you could just stop posting and we'd have a lot less wasted space.

I know it's a lot of work, but because I have nothing but love for you guys, when I want to post an image here, I usually upload it to my photobucket and link it from there. That site is designed to be hot-linked, so no bandwidth stealing worries or doubts that the image owner will suddenly change the picture for a barrel of cocks.

Now, for the thread's theme: Mearls outright admitted that he's outsourcing the actual game's math. That this was posted on the first page and all the following answers weren't blind incoherent rage makes me admire you guys' fortitude and/or lack of fucks to give.

Mearls slyness is like a super-power: The guy spent two years making promises about D&DN there were: A) impossible and/or B) contradictory; and NOW, at the 11th hour, he shifts the responsibility to deliver to Somebody Elseā„¢.

Using images for your own purposes equally stealing or equally fair use regardless of whether you steal their bandwidth too.

Here is a thoughtful and even-handed analysis of the practice of hotlinking (the first non-wikipedia result for googling "hotlinking"):

Well, you know what, I've been thinking about it, and while it sounds like a bad idea, it it probably doesn't even matter.

Say you have two dudes working on a game, and one is more of the "concept" guy, and the other guy is the quant who helps ensure mechanics deliver desired results, it's plausible to imagine them making a decent game. So long as they share an idea of what the game is supposed to do.

Now, with 5e they have Core Team and Math Team. It's just a different arrangement for teamwork. Math Team might have more quantitative skills so they might make the math "better" than Core TEam, while the Core Team focuses on whatever they focus on.

The reason this doesn't matter is because the GOALS of D&D Next are horrible. So even if the Math Team makes the math "good" relative to the core goals, 5e will still be bad.

I believe this is because because the game seems obsessed with the idea of a DM railroading his characters through dungeon rooms and dominating the plot. There are no truly awesome class features, feats, or spells to aspire to for players. Their 17th level playtest video seriously shows a level 1 adventure -- if they didn't tell you it was a "high level adventure", you'd think you were watching a level 1 adventure.

They don't want the players to be able to do anything awesome on teh scale of 1e-3e. The monsters are all bitches and a hell of a lot of gameplay is built around a completely arbitrary MTP check system. I would HATE to be the DM in this game. If I am DM, I want to try have rules so I can be objective about stuff in the game. I don't want to decide all the DCs for EVERYTHING, or whether people can even make a check AT ALL every single time.

a... shelf?
Nevermind. I really don't want to know.

Anyway the pattern isn't exactly hard to spot, regardless of whether you call them classing groupings, subclasses, or whatever, or even minor alterations to the class names. The relationships stay them same in 3e, and 5e. 4e is the only one that really takes a departure, and even then, only for certainly classes, like the ranger and the bard.

1e:................................2e
.....................................Warrior
Fighter............................---Fighter
--Paladin,.......................---Paladin
--Ranger........................---Ranger

......................................Priest
Cleric..............................---Cleric
--Druid............................---Druid

.....................................Wizard (Mage?)
Magic-User.....................---Generalist Wizard
--Illusionist.....................---Assorted Specialists

.....................................Rogue
Thief..............................---Thief
--Assassin.....................----Bard

Special: Monk

1e Double Super
Secret Special: Bard

Why would it be a bad thing? Letting someone (anyone) who is not Mearls do the maths can only be good for the game.

Let's call the first group designers and the second developers.

Yeah, imagine if D&D actually had that kind of set-up going.

Sure. But they also need to work in tandem. You're pretty fucked if you only set the second guy to work after the first guy is finished and sent the manuscript off to be published.

Well, not entirely. You do need a complete design spec, or the mechanics ate going to suffer, because you waste your time on rework instead of polish.

The problem is that a healthy work arrangement between "ideas team" and "math team" has feedback being heard from both directions and the product being developed from this consensus. The situation right now with D&DN is that Mearls already did a lot of promises about how the game will be, and by the way the Den commented about them, a lot of these are spurious. (putting it mildly. actual words used involved more cock)

Mearls has been promising to sell a castle in the clouds for the last two years, and just now he hired the engineers for the task of building the castle. This means a Reality Shock is due to happen there. In a healthy situation, the idea team would change the vision to one supported by sound probability. But since this is Mearls we're talking about, my suspicion is that he didn't get a "math team", but a "scapegoat team": When the game Fails to Deliver, Mearls will put the blame on bad implementation (rather than on a failed concept), and then get started on D&D5.5.

"A dwarf in a steel top hat and steel tuxedo called MC Killzalot, the most famous dwarven rapper who's on the skids after a disastrous attempt at a prog rock album. Oh, his class is Fighter." ~Mike Mearls, head designer of Dungeons and Dragons 5th Edition introducing his character.
I had thought that was just some cheap shot. I wish I would still believe that.

What's wrong with that guy..

See, that is where you go wrong.
A healthy work arrangement won't result in a better game. You have to accept that Mearls is the lead designer. It is like if the retarded kid, hopped on acid, only hired because he's the mistress of your CEO, is your boss.
When the game Fails to Deliver, Mearls will put the blame on bad implementation (rather than on a failed concept), and then get started on D&D5.5.
People will blame whatever they can spin into clever marketing for their next project.

we didn't do shit, we couldn't HASBRO the retards put MEarls in charge of D&D after the previous moron Bill S was fired over his perfect D&D called 4th.

HASBRO chose Greg Leeds from HASBRO Marketing to be CEO of WotC, and thus in charge.

this jsut shows what HASBRO thinks of WotC.. it is all just marketing and hoopla for quick cash, then just dump the things into a vault.
