(I watched that entire thing, and only had to consult a katakana chart to figure out one pokemon. I was able to place every opening sequence, attack, inaccuracy, and pokemon, save for the one of which I needed to figure out the name. I need to go kill myself now...)

No, it is not. India, Pakistan, Korea, Taiwan, and the Caucasus also have relatively high rates of sex-select infanticide.

I think China is the only country where sex-select infanticide is related to the laws of the nation.

In India, it's based off of Hindu caste prejudice, I'm really not sure about the rest.

Mostly in India/Pakistan/Afghanistan/Tibet it's based on Economics.

It's EXPENSIVE to marry off a daughter.
Unwed daughters are an even bigger drain on your family finances, because for the most part, they can't work real jobs. They stay at home, they can't farm, they can't do anything, except eat and wear clothes. All of which costs money.

Men can work in the fields, they can get jobs doing things. Men when they marry get their wive's dowery. Which means increased wealth for the family (more cows, goats, land, what have you).

Of course, all those countries selecting against women,end up with a problem that now, there aren't enough women for all those men to marry. Especially since there's no way you're going to marry a girl whose been in force prostitution since she was 11.

The solution, of course, is to allow women to have jobs, and work outside the home. This is not easy, it took 100's of years for the West to allow this to happen.

SE Asian countries, probably have similar issues, women are not seen as productive members of a family. Which means, their desirability is based on their ability to birth sons. This doesn't help if she's YOUR daughter, as marrying her off is expensive, and nets your family a net loss.
