For your next 12-year-old anime schoolgirl PC: http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1028259

...because it's such a popular archetype, I'm sure.

YamiShinobi peppers the WotC boards with things like this

And in addition to the anime schoolgirl stuff, he/she also pulls blanket statements about the paladin honor code out of his/her ass.

I would've assumed that was a troll but his reply really sounds like he plays this stuff.

How old is that guy? Seriously.

"i avoid cybering with tentacles, no tentacles are going anywhere on the lolis. at least nowhere between the kneecaps and the shoulders. slapping of the hands or feet, and that's it."

It's not gaming-related, but I have to share it: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080513/ap_ ... can_aliens

I'm sure we can all breathe a sigh of relief now.

Hmm. 'We don't know if there are aliens or not, but there could be' is fairly rational, particularly for the vatican. I'm not really seeing the laughing or crying angle.

It's just the "Pope says it's okay to believe in aliens" line that amused me. Maybe it's just me.

Anyway, I must return to the Mothership now.

Yeah that was a blatant lie. We all know that any RPG freak willing to put anime lolis into a game is most assuredly using tentacles somewhere, sometime.

I wonder what the odds are that that guy takes a Nasty Gentleman style cohort when he plays out his child rape fantasies with his friends?

I'd rather straight out play Nasty Gentleman myself. That is one kickass class concept.

Things D&D could learn from Videogames

I'm sure you can all see the train wreck coming just from the title, but then they start arguing about Gary Gygax. It's quite something.

The first post has some good points - about what RPGs should have, if not about video games - but after that it sort of...dissolves.

Edit: Referring to the RPG/Video Game thread.

Double Edit: The fighter thread looks like someone took the Same Game Challenge concept and ran with it...sideways. Damn, runestar usually sounds halfway intelligent. Disappointing.

A relatively large shitstorm on the WotC boards:

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1032128

http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.ph ... 04&page=54

The second thread gets more interesting the farther you get into it.

Ooooh, this spin off is netting the den some advertising around post 26.

here

Otherwise, its pure drama, yes utter stupidity and meaness from a regular run of the mill forum megalomaniac setting his community on fire for no conceivable reason...

But isn't that every day stuff?

And is my memory confused or wasn't it Autumn who was rather playing a similar role herself over the whole wish and the word thing? (not to alienate any of the folks migrating over here during this little incident)

edit again: #*$@&% I "migrated" my long lost wotc account just for the hope of seeing if my old mail were still there so I could see if she had ever sent me a nasty message from around then, and damnit the user account stuff there is a piece of shit.

... here we go...

Anyway- I want to let you know that my recent post defining baiting was directed at you all. (I still can't figure out if/how to see the other recipients of PM's but regardless, you're not the only one receiving this but it shouldn't be a surprise as to who is).

There are a lot of good points being brought up on that thread. The contest was far from perfect and the mistakes should be addressed so that they don't happen again. But you are being notified that the way in which you worded your post was uncalled for and was negative enough to fall under the baiting definition.

Please continue to make suggestions, but do it constructively. No more personal attacks or snide remarks. Further infractions will result in a warn.

Holy. Mother. Fucking. Crap.

OK. So as a result digging through my old PMs on WOTC. And anyway...

You guys remember when there was that stupid advice article ages ago, it made it onto the contemporary laughable threads thread.

Anyway at the time I was in on a bit of the criticism of it over at WOTC, and got especially pissed with a particular wizo of some shape or form who was basically all over that deleting and "moderating" while telling some pretty provable lies about the authors and "official" nature of the article.

Being REALLY pissed I noted that there was a new "Community Liaison" and fired off a message asking the guy if he felt this was really a good way of liaising with the community.

He sent me back a total fob off. But anyway I knew him as "Mike_Lescault"

As it turns out my migrated PM box knows him as "Gamer_ZerO, Community Manager"

And his message back to me at the time hilariously reads...
Hiya,

The WizOs are not WotC employees and are handled by a different group. In every online forum I've been involved with, people have complained that moderators are too tough/lenient/inconsistent, often all three at the same time. So I am not sure if it's possible to moderate forums without complaints.

But the bottom line is that I am not involved in moderating and I don't manage or direct the moderators. I think it would seem like a conflict of interest if I was involved in that in any way.
Wonder if that one will make leap over to the WOTC board antics?

Can anyone give me the short of what the fuck that was all about?

Combing through it, seems that WotC is coming in and busting up the cliques on their board, and Autumn is pissed off about it. And sure, they are probably busting up the cliques for pretty disingenuous reasons. More than likely the genuine plan is to get rid of established consensus farms on their boards ahead of the 4e launch in an effort to control the dialog from the get-go. After all, it would be pretty embarrassing if they had an entrenched and judgmental consensus farm in place when 4e hit and that consensus went against them. Far better from their standpoint to make a new community made exclusively of people who made the switch to 4e.

So yeah. WotC fired the CharOp forum. And no one should be surprised, because that community had no way to help 4e sales and several ways it could potentially hurt. And CharOp people have a right to be upset about that.

But let's face it: the CharOp board was an incredibly insular and unwelcoming place. We recall quite well the reception that The Wish and The Word got (when made by outsiders) as compared to the reception that Pun Pun got (when made by part of the clique). And yes, Autumn therefore has a lot to answer for. It's basically her fault that the CharOp boards were like that - a hostile consensus farm that was pretty much impervious to ideas brought in from the "outside." So while I sympathize with the CharOp boarders hurt feelings for being dispersed, I also realize that if I had been in the same position I would have put the foot down a long time ago.

Autumn spent the last 7 years punishing people who didn't tow the party line, gleefully adding things to the party litany that could get people ostraka either officially or unofficially. She responded to petitions from outsiders to make the place more welcoming with warnings and suspensions. And in 2008 she lost her cool. Someone upstairs made a decision that she didn't like and she didn't tow the party line herself. And she had her kingdom taken away in precisely the same unofficial fashion that she helped castigate others with while that ability was in her hands.

It's more ironic than sad really. Her not getting renewed for her volunteer spokesperson position is exactly the same as her banning contest entries from outsiders for winning. It drives people away. It hurts feelings. But it keeps the power structure strong. And if the call was hers to make I doubt anyone seriously believes that she wouldn't have done the same thing.

Petard!

I think you got the gist of it.

The only bit that I don't really follow is the odd community consultation part.

Sure they want to smash up popular boards and in the process censured some strident community member and did so in a clearly flagrant manner. Whatever, that's just what they do.

But why the hell did they post a thread for feed back on that master plan? And from what I gather from the complaints when the first one didn't work out they did it again, and then after that AGAIN.

That bit just seems like asking for trouble. Well it all does, but you can see the general processes at work with the rest of it.

What about reposting the Wish and the Word over at her forum, I smell potential ironic responses.

Holy shit, would you? The builds were awesome and I've based much of everything I've done since that on them.

The description of the situation above is actually not accurate at all and confuses a ton of issues, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking I'm going to change anyone's mind here.

That thread though makes me laugh and cry to say the least.

(Just a quick FYI, I actually had a registered name here before the transition but lost it when that all happened. No biggie, I think I'd only posted like twice).

My side is pretty well laid out though there is an enormous amount so it's harder and harder to find. And there is a lot of backstory.

In as few words as possible:

Gleemax enters. Bends D&D and the WotC site over a rail and buggers it up the ass. WizOs truly go to pure robotic answering machines (which we were in a sense previously too but even more so). All of the community stuff got split into a new and improved (read "volunteer") position called the VCL.

I was the VCL for the d20 boards. I did well and played the game while WizOs and friends dropped like flies because of the asinine changes.

I did well- so well Gamer Zero asked me to take on more. I said no. Oops!

Then he decided all of the boards would go away and would be replaced by new, shiny boards. He asked for feedback, I surveyed the areas and provided and he ignored it and posted his own plan and with no more conversation, implemented it. Regardless of past feelings, I think people here can at least recognize that combining Character Optimization and Character Development into one board is borderline retarded.

Anyway, I said "Oh nos! Please no, what are you doing?".

He said "BTW, 3 month limit for VCL's, you've got to reapply"

I said "Ok.. fine." and reapplied and was the only one to do so.

On Thursday he said "Psych! No to you and yes to someone who didn't even apply! Yay him!"

I said "What about this idea of Radical Transparency you are trying to force us to have?"

...

I talk to him privately and say "Other guy said he wouldn't take it unless we could do it together." He says "This other guy can quit before I'd ever let you in too *mwhahahaha*" ... (ok, maybe this is getting a little too muppets, but it's the idea).

And then the shit hit the fan. Over me, over the situation, over his incompetence... all of it.

And just another FYI, I gave you all a nod in one of my posts about the subject. Said that I had little complaint over my interaction on the d20 boards over the last 7 years, though there is one notable exception.

Fair enough. Do any job for 7 years and follow the rules they make you follow even when you want to scream at the rigidness sometimes and there are bound to be complaints and mistakes.

So... TaDa!!
