Nothing much to it. Equestria Girls was made, a bunch of bronies threw a fit about how it was the worst thing every and made death threats against the writers for making it. Meanwhile, the ones that wanted to see a movie over-reacted and started spewing shit on the internet too. Basically, "bornies" will start tearing each other to pieces at the drop of the hat (See: Derpygate, Down with Molestia, Twilicorn drama, etc.)Longes wrote:Care to clue in those who missed it?TheJerkStore wrote:I envy anyone that missed the "Equestria Girls" drama.Maj wrote:I watched the video clip and seriously thought that some random group of fans made a movie and put the MLP into human bodies.

I pretty much came out of that movie like a sparkly, fuzzy WTF. And I don't even care because I can be a princess, too! Or something...
My son makes me laugh. Maybe he'll make you laugh, too.
It wasn't mine, but I was pretty pleased with the sudden return of the magic girl elements that helped suck me into season 1. There are segments of the movie that are fine, and some that are clumsy, but necessary. It is just that the chain which weaves them all together in the background is really terrible. Well, that and the idiot ball scenes with Twilight for the sake of cringe-comedy. Those actually weren't as bad as I was lead to believe, but still made me twitch a bit.Maj wrote:But they did look fabulous! Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

Button's mom has inspired a suprisingly large amount of inappropriate fanart. Even by the standards of the fandom.

I chose to sleep and then watch the Doctor Who 50th live, rather than watch the MLP season premier asap.

MaybeCertainly. Mixed with some Celestia/Luna incest. Plus the fact that I know that there is tentacle-porn heavy all-powerful magic-immune rape-plant fanfic that pre-dates this season by several months.Prak_Anima wrote:I chose to sleep and then watch the Doctor Who 50th live, rather than watch the MLP season premier asap.

I felt an echo of Sailor Moon S (or maybe R), personally.
'We've lost our ability to power up, but if we look deep inside, we can pull a new transformation out of our... plots.
One niggle, however: the timeline doesn't make much sense. Big D's seeds _weren't_ what the tree was holding back, because that conversation happened before (chronologically, not the order shown) he so casually scattered them about. So there must be something else under the Everfree...
Still, a fairly decent balance between Responsibilities! and Friends, at least from a thematic point of view. But at some point, everyone needs to learn that it does not do to doubt Twilight Sparkle, and no one ever should, not even herself.
Side note: Just saw a web page ad for a dating service called 'Brony Mate.' I was far too scared to click the link.

The tree was holding back the Everfree Forest so that ponies could have their own place, it just happened to also hold back Discord's seeds.
The thing that got me was that they needn't leave the elements behind. The tree obviously had enough power left for at least 1000 years. So basicay they just need to periodically bring the elements back every so often.

Apparently no one believes he's actually reformed- that was a little off tone, but not that much. And given his reactions, it seems fairly justified.
Hopefully that turns into a plot point later
@Prak- that doesn't make sense. The Everfree isn't some weird place outside Equestria; Celestia and Luna ruled from there at one point (before NMM- in fact up to NMM, since that is where the first flashback clearly takes place): the 'Castle of the Royal Pony Sisters' is inside the Forest.
They also just revived the tree from the point of death or failure. Yanking the 'batteries' right back out probably won't work.

Yeah, they still treat him like a villain, which is fucking dumb. Somewhat understandable, given the complete mind rape he perpetrated when he was the big bad, but still dumb.Voss wrote:Apparently no one believes he's actually reformed- that was a little off tone, but not that much. There's been some implication that EFF is completely out of control and basically so full of monsters that the idea it has normal animals too is basically laughable. I could see it being more of a case that it's easy to defend one castle in the middle of it, but it has to be held back by the tree in order to allow a civilization to exist.@Prak- that doesn't make sense. I think the 'implications' are mostly fanwank. Recall that the 'out of control' aspect of the everfree we're presented with by the ponies in the series premier is basically animals and weather behaving... normally. No pegasi weather control or earth ponies farming or babying the animals, just.. nature.Prak_Anima wrote: There's been some implication that EFF is completely out of control and basically so full of monsters that the idea it has normal animals too is basically laughable. In 'magic duel,' 'too many pinkie pies' and even this premerie, we see a lot of fluttershy's animal friends in or coming out of the forest, so that doesnt wash either. The 'full of monsters' seems to be 1 manticore, 1 ursa family, a rather friendly serpent, a cockatrice, a crocodile thing and some number of timber wolves. And a zebra, depending on how you want to count her.

Finally watching Episode 4x3, apparently "Magic" is synonymous with "Courage." Certainly none of the other elements have much.
