Oh for fuck sake people....
http://www.thatsnerdalicious.com/caffei ... in-drinks/

In short, a bunch of people are pissed off because Starbucks uses crushed insects in some of their drinks. They use cochineal extract, created by crushing the shells of a small insect, to colour their drinks. Vegans are pissed, because they're easily pissed off, and normal people are disgusted, because they're pussies who don't know about "allowable insect part levels" in fig newtons and hotdogs.

Grow up people, consuming bugs isn't going to kill you.
Cuz apparently I gotta break this down for you dense motherfuckers- I'm trans feminine nonbinary. My pronouns are they/them.

Prak: It isn't about whether they'll kill your not. It's more about how it violates the philosophy of their life. I'm sure my family of hindus would probably stop going to Starbucks. Starbucks is a business. If they cannot openly state that their products aren't vegetarian or kosher then they aren't really being ethical to a significant portion of their client base.

Openly stating this isn't the idea of having it on a website. It's actually having the information in the stores. I really do believe that's a move that needs to be had in most food service places. I really would like to know what's in my burger or smoothie or coffee drink at the time of purchase rather than having to google it.

Personally, I like eating bugs but I can totally see why this is an appropriate decision. I mean even if you put up signs in store that your product contains bugs, that's just going to drive away a lot of business. It's easier and much more business-friendly to remove it from their products.

Also, Fig newton's ingredient list doesn't list the fact that there are 13 insect heads per 100 grams of fig paste.

This is mostly because of the way the FDA allows the listing of ingredients.

Code: Select all

ENRICHED FLOUR (WHEAT FLOUR, NIACIN, REDUCED IRON, THIAMINE MONONITRATE [VITAMIN B1], RIBOFLAVIN [VITAMIN B2], FOLIC ACID), FIGS PRESERVED WITH SULFUR DIOXIDE, SUGAR, CORN SYRUP, HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP, GLYCERIN, WHEY (FROM MILK), SALT, SOY LECITHIN (EMULSIFIER), LEAVENING (BAKING SODA, CALCIUM PHOSPHATE), CALCIUM LACTATE, SODIUM BENZOATE ADDED TO PRESERVE FRESHNESS, MALIC ACID, ARTIFICIAL FLAVOR, MALTED BARLEY FLOUR, CORNSTARCH.

Here is a surprisingly accurate disclaimer to anyone who conscientiously objects to eating animal/insect parts: you can't eat anything that has been processed in any way, any where, ever. Whether as an intentional ingredient or simply because little critters get into all manner of processing equipment, you're going to eat some non-zero quantity when you do.

That's understandable. But when one is consciously made aware of a product in which this exists, it's a pretty human impulse to gravitate away from that product. At least, if this it either squicks them or if it's genuinely against their way of living.

Disappointed she didn't get hit by DV laws for doing that, but not particularly surprised. Still, that's pretty fucking scummy to do to a person.

Not to diminish her obvious culpability, but that guy is not very bright.

Well yeah, I think most people can agree the guy was a moron. But still, that calls more than a max of 3 years. She ought to have to pay for the cost of new teeth and emotional damages, at the least.

That would normally be a civil, rather than criminal matter. In that the ex-boyfriend would be able to sue in addition to whatever jail time she faces.

I disagree. One doesn't have to expect such repulsive, evil behaviour in response to a break-up.

It seems like she will be, shortly. You can only put someone through a trial so fast.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

It's the next Kickstarter for me to star for a reminder when I have some money.

WTF this can't be real right?
He announces that he's going to sell his own property so low-income housing can be build and this is the community reaction:
That has created an atmosphere that one opponent, who asked not to be identified, saying she feared for her safety, described as “sheer terror” and likened to “Syria.”

They probably think that poor people - in that neighborhood, a household income of 88'000 USD seems to be considered poor according to the article, at least as far as qualifying for housing counts - make poor neighbors. Or it's the social version of the "save the planet, but not in my backyard" mentality.

Heh, I just noticed this now, and apparently someone got upset at that project and it was cancelled by the kickstarter site. So it has renewed on the company's own page and are already up to their previous funding without having to pay the fee to kickstarter thus making everyone happy.

I saw that. Makes me wonder if R'lyeh has risen.
He jumps like a damned dragoon, and charges into battle fighting rather insane monsters with little more than his bare hands and rather nasty spell effects conjured up solely through knowledge and the local plantlife. He unerringly knows where his goal lies, he breathes underwater and is untroubled by space travel, seems to have no limits to his actual endurance and favors killing his enemies by driving both boots square into their skull. His agility is unmatched, and his strength legendary, able to fling about a turtle shell big enough to contain a man with enough force to barrel down a near endless path of unfortunates.

--The horror of Mario

Zak S, Zak Smith, Dndwithpornstars, Zak Sabbath. He is a terrible person and a hack at writing and art. His cultural contributions are less than Justin Bieber's, and he's a shitmuffin. Go go gadget Googlebomb!

I'd heard about the face-eater, but not the intestine-thrower. Did PCP become popular again, or something?
