Strangely, male PCs end up looking less often like Jack and more often like nanuk, while female ones look more like red sonja than vice versa...

The same has happened to a lot of characters in the Soul Edge/Calibur series. The sexualization of the female cast has upped significantly with every new game, and in 4 it's just ridiculous.

It's really a shame, that used to be my favorite fighting game.

Yeah, it's a bit of self-referential winking at the fantasy trope of the chainmail bikini, but it's not really out-of-place and it actually helps to humanize an otherwise superhuman character.

Well sure, but that's not the way it's used in, for example, Red Sonja. In Makri's case it's actually included in the story for a reason. It doesn't really change my point at all: The problem isn't with the attire itself, but rather the context (or lack thereof) for it. If it makes you any happier, I'll say "chainmail bikinis almost always fall into this category."

Unexplained nonsensical sexualized attire that lacks any kind of appropriate context is out of place and dehumanizes the character. Chainmail bikinis usually fall into this category (but might not in the case of, say, a person wearing a costume for the express purpose of arousing customers to get more tips in the context of the story). Lago, learn to read. That falls pretty straightforwardly into the category I described.

My problem isn't with whether people wear revealing clothing (or even if they wear anything at all), it has to do with characters who are dressed really obviously absurdly for the sole purpose of titillation, outside of any in-story context, often even at the expense of story if need be (For example, the Fanservice Girl character never, ever having her stripperific costume she wears all the time commented on in an RPG, even if such things are commented on for other people when plot appropriate). Likewise, this wouldn't be an issue to me if it were in something that is *about* sexualization, like porn. But D&D isn't that.

Last I checked, "the invisible viewer" wasn't part of the setting context in D&D.[/b]

In a world where wearing a ring somehow protects you better, I have no problem believing that the chainmail bikini actually does something. This isn't to say that I think every character should be wearing one, just that it's more justifiable than you give it credit for.

I've always thought the easiest solution for the chain-mail bikini was the simple argument that:

A. Magic armor doesn't need a lot of material since it protects you with force fields, and...

B. Dirty old man Wizards make the bulk of magic armor.

Not to mention we're talking about a game where if someone got the most protective benefit out of wearing a duck on his head, he'd, at least, seriously consider the option.

I personally think that boobs generally "humanize" people. To the point where when people put boobs onto lizard people I'm like "Stop anthropomorphizing those guys so damn much!" I really have no problem with people dressing for "rule of cool" rather than practicality in fantasy.
