Wouldn't you want to swap the head for a Beholder for your hybrid, and the Mind Flayer's thing is having an octopus head anyway?

The half-beholder retains all the attacks and special qualities of the base creature, so in effect, instead of a mind flayer with a beholder for a head, you get a mind flayer with eye stalks, a single large eye in its head, and a toothy maw.

Which personally I think would look goddamned awesome
