Agreed. Vaccinations are much more effective when they're actually used.Koumei wrote:The same people freaking out about Coronavirus (and enabling a lot of racism in the process here) still won't get their flu vaccinations, naturally.
But everyone knows someone who says the only time they ever got sick from the flu was also the only time they ever got vaccinated.
The year we started getting regular flu vaccines is when we stopped repeatedly getting sick from the kids at school. It feels really, really nice to not have school year = sick season.

I am also very much in favour of the decision to not allow unvaccinated kids into school / daycare / kindergarden.

Peculiar properties of spacetime ensure that the perception of the magnitude of Soon is fluid and dependent, not on an individual's time-reference, but on spatial and cultural location. A marketer generally perceives Soon as a finite, known, yet unspeakable time-interval; to a fan, the interval appears greater, and may in fact approach the infinite, becoming Never. Once the interval has passed, however, a certain time-lensing effect seems to occur, and the time-interval becomes vanishingly small. We therefore see the strange result that the same fragment of spacetime may be observed, in quick succession, as Soon, Never, and All Too Quickly.

If there is a genuine medical / physical reason, no.
If the reason is i don't wanna, i don't believe in it, it costs too much money, then kindly get yourself out of the herd.

I don't see why it wouldn't apply equally to everyone though? Unvaccinated is unvaccinated, no matter the reason, right? Polio isn't going to check first for the reason that it's free to spread through the daycareThaluikhain wrote:Does that apply to people that legitimately can't get vaccinated, though?Stahlseele wrote:I am also very much in favour of the decision to not allow unvaccinated kids into school / daycare / kindergarden.

Koumei: and if I wanted that, I'd take some mescaline and run into the park after watching a documentary about wasps.

Well, swap "I" for "my parents". Not the kid's fault.Stahlseele wrote:If there is a genuine medical / physical reason, no.

If everyone who can get vaccinated does, they aren't put at risk by people who don't because they can't, surely?phlapjackage wrote:I don't see why it wouldn't apply equally to everyone though? I have seen kids do stuff like that.
Mainly class trips from school and the such.
Fortunately, not in medical things, because the german health care system works a bit better in that regard . .

I think the problem isn't for the vaccinated, but for the unvaccinated. So if you allow unvaccinated kids to be mixin' it up in school, there's a greater risk for every unvaccinated kid there. Although I do see now how that could be sort of punishing for those who are unvaccinated because they can't be...Thaluikhain wrote:If everyone who can get vaccinated does, they aren't put at risk by people who don't because they can't, surely?
My initial thought about allowing "categories" of unvaccinated was that those who chose to not vaccinate would find some way to cheat the system and claim that their kid was unvaccinated by necessity and so should be allowed in school.

It would help if experts were involved in the crafting of laws, and lobbyists were not.phlapjackage wrote: My initial thought about allowing "categories" of unvaccinated was that those who chose to not vaccinate would find some way to cheat the system and claim that their kid was unvaccinated by necessity and so should be allowed in school.

In point of fact, most lobbyists are experts. That said, they have a very specific interest in the laws that make it more favorable to them. Vaccines are cheap and effective, so there isn't a financial incentive to lobby to make them more universal. Anyone who gets paid more when people are really sick does have a financial incentive to make vaccines less universal. That's why one of the most important things we can do as a society is ensure that what's good for people lines up with what's financially beneficial for other people. We're not good at that.Iduno wrote:It would help if experts were involved in the crafting of laws, and lobbyists were not.phlapjackage wrote: My initial thought about allowing "categories" of unvaccinated was that those who chose to not vaccinate would find some way to cheat the system and claim that their kid was unvaccinated by necessity and so should be allowed in school.

It's normal to spend the day in a daze when over-sleeping.
It's normal to over-sleep if you go long stretches of being woken by an alarm.
It's normal to need woken by an alarm if you don't take time to wind down and go to sleep before you get very tired each day.
Vaccinations work when the expected number of infections caused from each new case is less than one. In some cases that means you only need a lot of people vaccinated, like with the flu, but with measles you need over 90% vaccinated because a lot of the individual vaccinations aren't actually effective and many are still vulnerable if the infection rate gets above 1.
Plus lots of people can't be vaccinated, it's a thing, once you're allergic to any of the common preservatives it's just easier to skip over you by a long way. With measles, if many people at all outside that group fail to vaccinate, the rate of transmission gets slightly above 1 per case again and you get local measles epidemics, and it'll hit both vaccinated and unvaccinated people, including adults.
Social exclusion works for two reasons, keeping the transmission rate in schools under 1 prevents measles spreading through schools, but also people hate having their kids socially excluded and will often vaccinate them in response. This fails in groups where parents respond by socialising their vulnerable herds outside school, and those groups regularly fall to infection and are the main reserve of infection in society as a whole.
Note that in the US, antivaxxers are deliberately and carefully keeping measles alive, traveling great distances with their children to deliberately infect them, and then carefully exposing all the local anti-vaxxer's kids in turn. These are the people whose kids are being excluded. Very much cargo-cult stuff.

PC, SJW, anti-fascist, not being a dick, or working on it, he/him.
How do you tell if you have a fever when your "normal" is headache, being tired, and allergy-related illness? It's hot and humid now, so the sweating might be from that.
Edit: I'm not even sure why I want to know. I can't do much about it either way. Knowing why I feel like crap doesn't help, but I still want to know.

Is this a trick question? You stick a thermometer in your mouth and wait until it beeps.
