4chan

I've noticed that some of you use 4chan catchphrases on this forum, and I gotta know why.

I visited that site once, and I clicked on the 'get a random board' link, and there was actual child porn right there. What the fuck? Why would you admit going to such a site?

For the lulz.

But seriously, the CP is kind of like the spammers here. It's not allowed, and it's deleted when found, but it can't really be stopped without radically changing things.

Certain boards are literally addictive. /b/ especially. Thankfully I've managed to kick that habit.

You didn't click "Get a Random Board". You clicked "/B/ Random".

/B/ is not anything to judge ANYTHING on, man. /B/ is where people go to be monsters. I'm not talking orcs or gnolls here, I'm talking people acting in a manner that is completely reprehensible. The standard response to any request for advice is "Kill yourself, LOL". People break rules and laws there just to prove they can.

/B/ has been shut down on more than one occasion, yes.

I do not blame anyone for fearing to venture into /B/. Seriously, don't go there, you won't like it and it probably says something very bad about you if you do like it. But most of the rest of the boards are fairly sane.

Don't even 'research' how bad it is. Take our word for it.

The first response to a thread about a girl having killed herself was: "It says she's single. Anyone have a shovel and night to spare?"

To behold, a public bulletin board, built of both brilliance and barbarity by bastards with boners.

This bastion, no mere bulwark of boredom, is a brutal barrage of blistering bullshit, barely benevolent

But behind the bigotry and boobs, beyond the bitter broadcasts of bragging buffons: here be the body politic

A brotherhood of blasphemy, blessed with more balls than brains, battling the bland, the bogus, the benign.

Bedlam? Bring it on, but better to brief, you may call it /B/

In the US, cartoons have been ruled, by the highest court in the land, as not child porn.

It'd be an insult to all the little people in the world, I suppose.

I think he meant actual CP, not loli. That gets posted sometimes.

I used to lurk there, even posted once or twice. I hated it and everyone there but I couldn't force myself to leave. I got so disgusted with myself and that place that I cut myself off from the internet entirely for two weeks; went cold turkey, as it were. I've managed to stay away since then thankfully.

Lolita is child porn, legally. The term is based on an underaged girl who got involved with an artist who later wrote about it.

Adults in child-like clothing (known as ageplay, baby-whatever, diaper player, lolita, etc) isn't child-porn. And neither is art that could be interpreted as.

Which was just my point.

"Loli" as in "art depicting underage girls."

"loli" is short for "Lolita" a reference to a book about an affair between a grown man and an underaged girl. In that context it refers to underaged girls in sexualized situations. It can be legal (ex.: Washuu from Tenchi) or illegal (not going there).

But "loli" is also short for "Gothic Lolita" which is a fashion/cultural movement from Nippon. It mostly involves young women dressing themselves up as porcelain dolls and behaving in a hyper-elegant fashion. This isn't just legal, it's not even creepy. If young women want to wear poofy black dresses and pour each other tea that's totally hot.

Of course, the fact that the same word is a contraction for something that is perfectly normal to talk about and also a contraction for something that is at least skeazy and often immoral and punishable by jail time is mined for comedy gold by people on 4Chan.

The fact that the characters from Rozen Maiden are all "Gothic Lolita" magical girls gets no end of play in various statements on 4Chan.

Image
A woman doing "loli" cosplay by dressing up as Shinku from Rozen Maiden. The character in question dressesd like a porcelain doll because she is a doll, and the stuffed dog she is holding is a mock up of "Detective Kun Kun" a puppet from a TV show that she believes is also an animated object (but in reality is just a puppet from a children's show - comedy gold!)

I don't even know what "4chan" is, even after reading this thread. And I think I might be better off that way...

It's an anime-influenced bulletin board where people post lots of pictures.
