The first post was bad enough.

Pretty much.
A fly skill is stupid in a lot of ways. But not a Nazi way.

Backwards compatibility arguments with pathfinder are inherently funny. That crap wasn't going to fly from the start. I'm surprised they're still pretending...

Whats sad is that anyone actually believes it.

I thought I'd see what the wotc boards were saying about 4th ed.

Well it took me ages just to find the right place.

In the process stumbling across old 4th ed rules boards and an old 4th ed concerns and criticisms board both now relegated to "outdated editions" to hide them away.

Anyway eventually over here we find that the local community bitch, or whatever they call them now, can't seem to decide what criticism is or where it should go except that whatever it is it should be whereever he is, except, oh ok, go ahead then, maybe.

And thanks in part to that thread I discover that there is actually a movement of idiots on the WOTC boards who regard themselves as a militia defending 4th edition in a "war" by guerilla posters (trying to destroy it no less) and that their efforts to flame them will bring a smooth transition for the greater benefit of the community! No really I'm not even beginning to exagerate this one they actually use all those same terms and claims like they really believe it.

Oh and over here some guy is signing his posts with "-K"

Link to 4e defenders, please.

They seem to cover the details in the first link. I didn't really want to go see them in person but assume they were quite active in the now somewhat hidden and possibly locked 4e concerns and criticisms forum.

Apparently that was only useful when all such concerns could be dismissed with accusations of pointless speculation. Now 4th ed is basically out of the bag there are no longer any possible genuine concerns...

Interesting note: while they sent out Mike Mearls to do PR, the actual core design committee was Rob Heinsoo, Andy Collins, and James Wyatt.

Rob Heinsoo used to be awesome. He did Feng Shui along with Robin Laws (who also fell on hard times when writing for WotC with DMG and Fiendish Codex sequel credits - ick). James Wyatt is a relatively unknown dude online, but he has his fingers in virtually everything that WotC has done since they took on the 3rd edition D&D project. His first real project was Oriental Adventurers (2001), and he's been bouncing around as a contributor and developer for them ever since. His solo projects are stuff like Defenders of the Faith and Player's Guide to Faerun.

So for your enjoyment, here's the credits of the Design Team of 4th edition:

Rob Heinsoo
Andy Collins
James Wyatt

And for yucks, here's the writing credits of the Development Team whose contributions aren't sufficient to get their names on the covers:

Mike Mearls
Stephen Radney-MacFarland
Peter Schaefer
Stephen Schubert

He's a nutjob. However, this thread did make me LOL with this quote:

Where's the thread that goes through all the variations of:
That's it. I'm sick of all this "Masterwork Bastard Sword" bullshit that's going on in the d20 system right now. Katanas deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine katana in Japan for 2,400,000 Yen (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid steel with my katana.

Japanese smiths spend years working on a single katana and fold it up to a million times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Katanas are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a katana can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a katana could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Japan? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Samurai and their katanas of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the katanas first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Katanas are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the d20 system. Here is the stat block I propose for Katanas:

(One-Handed Exotic Weapon)
1d12 Damage
19-20 x4 Crit
+2 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

(Two-Handed Exotic Weapon)
2d10 Damage
17-20 x4 Crit
+5 to hit and damage
Counts as Masterwork

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of Katanas in real life, don't you think?

No, it's an internet meme. The original is a 4Chan thread where people responded to it in the only mature way possible: by restating the OP with slightly different words to rant about other, similar things. So there was a post about going to Tenochtitlan to get a Macahuitl and a post about going to Egypt to get a Khopesh. That kind of thing. But I don't know where the original archive of it was.

No, really, I've been in a game where a player is a total Japanophile. His character is a 6'10", 310-lb one-eyed katana-wielding bloodthirsty who's always comparing everything--even the damn cooking--unfavorably to that in his native "Wuhani"

Of course, another character keeps calling him the "Sam-u-rai" and referring to Ryujin's homeland as "Woo Hanny".

Not sure what you're asking.

To try to cover the bases, the setting is original, Wuhani is this setting's equivalent of the Far East (mostly Japan), Ryu is original (though poorly designed), and Charlie talks like a hick. He's a blast.

The best pronunciation for samurai I have ever heard was sam-a-ry. He pronounced it like canary but with an s and m instead of the c and n. It was not like he was trying to bug someone either. That is just how he pronounced it.

Frank:

I recall first seeing it on the WotC boards, but then parodied to death on 4chan. If it's only on 4chan, you'll never see it again due to the way threads are executed.

I did a search in the archives, but to no avail. The best one I remember (and one that I agree with - for the basic idea) is:

That's it. I'm sick of all this "Counts as Close Combat Weapon" bullshit that's going on in the 40K system right now. Chainswords deserve much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself commissioned a genuine chainsword in Mars for 1 Point (that's about $20,000) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even cut slabs of solid plasteel with my chainsword.

Imperial Tech-priests spend seconds working on a single chainsword and sharpen it up to three times to produce the finest blades known to mankind.

Chainswords are thrice as sharp as European swords and thrice as hard for that matter too. Anything a longsword can cut through, a chainsword can cut through better. I'm pretty sure a chainsword could easily bisect a knight wearing full plate with a simple vertical slash.

Ever wonder why medieval Europe never bothered conquering Holy Terra? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined Space Marines and their chainswords of destruction. Even in World War II, American soldiers targeted the men with the chainswords first because their killing power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Chainswords are simply the best sword that the world has ever seen, and thus, require better stats in the 40K system. Here is the stat block I propose for Chainswords:

(Chainsword)
+1 Attack
Increases Strength by 2
Allows no Armour saves (but Invulnerable saves are still allowed)
Counts as Mastercraft

(Eviscerator)
+2 Attacks
Doubles Strength and deals 2 Wounds
Allows no Armour saves, even invulnerable
Counts as Mastercraft

Now that seems a lot more representative of the cutting power of chainswords in real life, don't you think?

Really, just pick any weapon and fill in the blanks.

That's fine. What I wanted to know was, is it from an anime or real Japanese culture (Wuhani?), or just something made up for a Rokugani pseudo-Asian game.
