So I want to point out that life in Czech Republic really is a long continuous cliche. It really is a Kafkaesque Nightmare, for example. A few weeks back a group of armed police stormed into my apartment in the middle of the night to roust me out of bed to take me to jail without telling me why, and only later revealed that I had been brought there to have the ruling regarding my case read to me that was originally supposed to have been mailed to me. It was in my favor and I am allowed to stay in country until the end of the school year and then apply for a new visa next year. Seriously.

And this really is the land of beer and sausage. The beer really is very good. And people drink it. Constantly. And not just beer. I drank three quarters of a liter of wine during biochemistry today.

But the cliche that I want to talk about today is that the Czech Republic is all about porn. This cliche is true. They are making porn in the flat next door to mine in my building.

That's an original painting. It's part of a series that the artist did on commission to deck the walls of this apartment building.

Does your flat have 12ft ceilings? It sure looks that way and thats crazy for a block of flats.

Never. They are almost never here. They just show up to film porn and they keep the place much cleaner than I keep my own flat. Also, it's upstairs, and I don't have the key to the elevator because my flat is on the ground floor.

Lots of old buildings are like that in Germany and I'd guess the rest of Europe too. It's great.

Lots of old buildings are like that here, not sure that there any blocks of flats from the 12ft ceiling era out here though. Its one of the selling points of old Queenslanders that real estate agents point out. Except I hate high ceilings, there something wrong about a ceiling that is more than 2ft above my head.
