Shadowrun: Temporarily enchanting/enhancing weapons?

Hello all!

I’m back again asking for your assistance and to pick the brains of people with more knowledge of the SR system than I.

Here we go; a friend is modifying SR rules to play a medieval campaign (whether or not it is the best choice is beside the point) and I want to play a dagger wielding spell caster. Sort of a shadowy street performer cum mystic adept with underworld connections. Unfortunately, I have yet to find any spell that can enhance whatever weapon you might be holding at the time (i.e. not a weapon focus or spirit injection).

I'm looking for spells that might do something like allow me to create poison that I could coat a blade with and throw it (or stab them up close and personal). Or a spell that I could cast and it would surround my weapons with fire, or corrosive mist for a certain length of time. The closest I've come to is [Element] Aura (Environmental) from Street Magic that covers your entire body.

So, has anyone seen anything (or made something) that might act in that fashion?

Thank you,

Rathe

Achoring used to have an option that did exactly that: put a fire aura on your blade. But that got dropped because it was stupid and no one cared.

Fundamentally the value of your dagger as a dagger is not particularly important. The difference between the biggest weapon and the worst is only 4 points of damage. Adding a die to your attack pool is worth 1/3 of a damage point, adding a point to Strength is worth 1/2 a damage point, and of course Increased Reflexes straight up quadruples your damage.

Buffs like Increase Strength (or Agility) and Analyze Device are all much larger than any dagger enhancement is likely to be. I'll straight up say you will never see a dagger enhancement in any sourcebook or fanzine that will ever be as powerful as Increase Reflexes.

To the best of my knowledge, the only two ways to do this:

1) Analyze Device. This is actually probably a much less shitty spell in the medieval period because you don't need 7 hits to get +1 with shooting people.

2) Possession spirits can possess weapons, and may or may not add bonuses to some or all of the ratings such as damage. The rules are "Whee magic tea party ask your GM" on this point.

If you really really want a "burning weapon" spell you could just take the [Element] Aura spells, restrict them to Touch and Very Restricted Target (objects), and use that. It's a bit of a stretch since seems to be exactly what you are asking for.

I mean, spell customization rules tend to have weird edge cases, but a slight boost to weapon DV and being able to stab spirits usefully doesn't seem like that much even for (Force/2)-1 Drain. You'd still be sustaining the spell, though, so whether it's actually worth that depends on whether you can reliably hit and get OR+2 or more hits on your spellcasting test.

Bizarrely, I had the same idea the other day. It was partially born out of a desire to create a play scenario where something like being shot with an arrow (with the longbow being the deadliest and most feared weapon of much of medieval history) would actually matter, unlike in D&D where it doesn't really matter much past the first handful of levels.

Thanks for the help everyone!

Want to start off agreeing with the fact that Increase Reflexes is the most powerful buff there is, which is likely why the GM banned it. I will definately take a look at Analyze Device, maybe I can have it apply to multiple knives of the same make. Lastly, it looks like I'll have to approach the GM with regards to the Elemental Aura spell and see if it can be modified for the setting.

Thanks again!
