d20 Pokeymans Game

Okay, it may as well have its own thread.
I believe three people from the other game (technically 2, and 1 person from the same channel who paid attention to it) are interested in this, so there's space for another 1 or 2, but it won't be a nightmare if nobody else joins.
Setting: we need to discuss whether we want:
[*]A specific Island/area of Pokemon (and thus which one), right from the game - no D&D monsters
[*]As above, but not going straight by the game, allowing for more travel, and including D&D monsters
[*]As above, but being more D&D-influenced - players can be Elves and crap and there are magic items and it could in fact be set in D&DLand-With-Pokemon-And-Badges (but nicer in theme than D&DLand)
[*]D&DLand with Pokemon, including the bit where most actually want to kill and eat you.
Races:
This depends on the above. Options 1 and 2 are "You will be a Human and like it", options 3 and 4 allow for whatever usual ones are agreed on.
Classes:
[*]The
Pokemaster
[*]
Various others with mandatory
Alternate Class Features
Prestige Classes would involve things like Pokeranger, ReBurst Trainer, Move Tutor, Elite, and potentially the "I am a Pokemon and also a Pokemaster" things like the one for Mephits that Frank did.
Feats:
Most Tome Feats will be good to go. Also note the added feats
here.
Also, if you have Train Pokemon (you do), then you can slowly retrain your Pokemon's Skills and Feats. This way your own special Beedrill will be a bit better than standard Beedrills (but still not as good as Charizard).
Starting Level, Items/Wealth, Stats: these are also things that need discussion. Probably starting in the level 3-5ish region. And the Items/Wealth thing is dependent on the setting, of course.
So there's the groundwork. People can "sign up" in here, and discuss stuff.

So, yeah, as I mentioned, I'm interested in playing a warlock pokemaster. This would probably work best with settings 3 or 4.

I'm thinking some sort of Electric/Steel/Psychic trainer focus with a mechanical/artifice-type bent.

So, like a Gadgeteer with pikachus and magnemites and shit? That'd be pretty cool, actually. You've got a hell of a lot more to work with than my Warlock dark/ghost/fire trainer

Not necessarily the Gadgeteer class, could be a Pokemaster who focuses on technical skills rather than wilderness skills. I basically just have a general idea of what sort of Pokeymans I want and general concept at this point.
Actually, that gives me the idea of taking Craft Wondrous Item and having the Pokemon help for filling the spell/etc. requirements...

Ah, ok. Yeah, I just have the general "warlocks are always relevant to my interests" and "Dr. Facilier is the most awesome Disney villain I've yet seen" things going through my head. A dark or ghost type that typically pretends to be my shadow would be pretty cool, and I'm fairly certain there is a pokemon with that kind of MO. Haunter, I think.

Close - Gengar.

Well, Ghastly -> Haunter -> Gengar is an evolution family anyway.
And using Pokemon to provide spells for items sounds like a good idea. Note that we're using the Tome assumption of "You spend money (which isn't a big deal after a certain point) and time (which can be a big deal), not XP (which is something I don't want to have to measure)".

Ok, so I was close.
As much as I love Haunter, and like Gengar, and they have an awesome attack combo, I hate the extreme nerf that the first Gen ghosts got with being made secondary poison types. So, I'm definitely looking at the dark types, especially dark/ghost types such as sableye and spiritomb. I kind of wish that the Pokemon Star Studio Pokemon were actual Pokemon, because I would totally use Demon.
Oh, also, I'm trying to get into the last class I need for my major which ends ten minutes before game time. This wouldn't be an issue of I had a car, but I don't, and thus rely on busses and rides to get to and from class, which means it's entirely possible that I won't be able to play simply because it'll take me something like an hour to get home. However, it's unlikely I'll actually get into the class, so...

Well, I don't intend on the game to start high enough level that Spiritomb is available, but Sableye could be in, yeah.
As for the starting time, we'll see what we can do - if the others don't mind, then starting an hour later means I can sleep in more (the one day of the week where I can).

Yeah, I did actually get in. I got out early today, but I will probably be there till about 6:30 to 7 every Tuesday.

Speaking of people with play time concerns, I'm still interested in this, I had just been keeping my mouth shut since I am currently in the jury selection pool and the bastards postponed voir dire until tomorrow-- thought I'd know more today, but no dice. Depending on the times they require it could be problematic if I get selected--it'd be a fair commute for me and I already run a bit light on sleep. The whole thing is almost enough to make me understand why the teabaggers want to tear down the gubmint at any cost. Hopefully after tomorrow I can just tell you that I'm good to go any time, but for now I honestly don't know for sure.
Anyway, here's the thoughts I have so far. Losing the spell per day stings, but I am leaning towards being a jester--probably with a plain domino mask and eyelids painted with things like dollar signs or X's so that he can make stupid, in-character sight gags by shutting his eyes. I have a fairly strong preference for setting option 1 or 2 and would play a human regardless of setting despite all the mechanical advantages a jester could get by whining until halflings are available--I've just never liked those guys, LotR be damned. All kender can kindly die in fires as far as I'm concerned.
As it happens, apparently Prak and I similar taste in pokeymans (and maybe character concepts depending on how much of a showman a Facilier inspired type might be, although my guy would be more buffoonish in actions if not in words) as far as haunter and murkrow go. But overall I'm more interested in the ones that look like they could be buddies with a burglar/bad prop comic. You know, like purrloin or stunky, to name a couple that haven't been statted yet and failing that I already kinda like the sandile writeup. Also, I kinda like mareep the electric sheep from the old pokemon list even if it it's a one trick pony with a pretty short shelf life.

I'm actually looking at other races. If we go with a "there are things other than humans" setting, I'm currently considering jockeying for an Imp, since I'm looking at a warlock (or in that case, Conduit), as they have +4 Cha. I'd go goblin, but... yeah, that's a -2.

I'd rather not deal with the pain of figuring out the level of creatures with hit dice and crap - especially when they offer nice big boosts to "the relevant stat". So if non-humans are in, I'd probably limit it to:
[*]Human
[*]Elf
[*]Orc
[*]Spiritfolk
[*]Halfling
[*]Gnome
[*]RoW Tiefling
[*]RoW Asimar
[*]RoW Drow
[*]Necropolitan
[*]Goblin
[*]Dwarf
[*]RoW Hobgoblin
[*]Spiker
[*]Mephling (LA +0)
[*]Chaond (LA +0)
[*]Zenithri (LA +0)
[*]Tainted One (LA +0)
[*]Extaminar
[*]Changeling
[*]Shifter
[*]Most of those Psychic ones ("whatever")
[*]Deep Imaskari
[*]Diopsid (LA +0)
[*]The big [Chaotic] monstermen things from Dragon Compendium (LA +0)
[*]Hellbred
And I think that's pretty much it. Which is heaps, but isn't really special. If all you care about is the Charisma boost, I bolded the ones that I know have +2 Charisma (in the case of the Hellbred, he can choose to have that), and italicised the ones that I think might possibly but I can't remember and can't be fucked checking.

Fair enough. Imps are probably about a Level 3, but it would admitedly be a pain to figure out. Also RoW Drow has basic elf stat mods. I'll take a look at stats later though, I should head to bed so that I'm not a complete zombie in class tomorrow.

So, there was no gathering on IRC to discuss this. Disappointing. Still, we can use this thread to discuss what everyone wants.
So far we have "a preference for 1-2" and "a preference for 3-4". So we're probably looking at 2 or 3 - either set on a Pokemon continent, but with D&D monsters added (as actual Pokemon) and people who just happen to have Pokemon powers (I mean, it already has psychics and sorcerers and stuff), or set in D&Dland but a lot nicer and friendlier, and with pokemon in it (and the whole Nurses Joy, Pokecentres, Pokeballs for sale, Elite 4, Gyms and Badges etc.)
PCs seem to currently be:
Warlock with a Dark, Ghost or Dark/Ghost
Pokemaster-probably with Electric and Steel for the main part, creating items
Jester with a tricksy thing

This is an IRC game? If so, I would be up for this.
I would be really interested in setting #1, with the added bonus "the Pokemon all want to eat you". You know, dark world and stuff like that. I always liked the idea that the really badass trainers all had Pokemon powers themselves -- like the psychic in-game. #2 can work too, I just personally don't like as much the idea of using D&D monsters. But if everyone else likes it I can live.
I'd be happy to get on IRC and discuss stuff. Just pick a time (I am GMT -0500, can hop on to *discuss* at any point really, but can only play after 6:00 PM my time or so).

I want in. Looking to go Psion with the alt class feature. Not sure on what pokemon yet, but probably gen 1 or 2.

Meikle: yep, I had a spot set aside for you. There are plenty of Pokemon that work well with a Psion - Ghost and Psychic types being the obvious ones, but honestly they could get good use out of Starmie or whatever too, or go the other way and have a Rydon or whatever as a bodyguard.
Surgo: yeah, IRC. If everyone else wants D&D monsters, you'll be outvoted, yeah. But that's not in stone yet. And a benefit (or, depending how you look at it, drawback :p) of "No D&D Monsters" is there won't be any "So I have captured the Sirine, and now I'm going to train her long and hard into the night. With my meat stick. I can explain in more detail if you like." That isn't going to that had better fucking not happen with regular Pokemon. I know there is a lot of pokeporn out there. I won't be having it though.

Well, I'm okay if I get outvoted. Just my preferences.
As far as a character, I'd like to play a Ninja with the Gastly/Haunter/Gengar line (ghost AND poison, woohoo). If it's cool I'd much prefer to use
my interpretation of the Tome ninja; we'd figure out what to ACF for the pokemon stuff (I figured just cut out a 1st and 2nd level ki power for the appropriate pokemon stuff).

That Ninja looks okay, yeah.

Damn. And here I totally wanted to use my Call Dark Pokemon ability to summon and train succubi.
Also, I guess my vote is #3.

I'm voting either 1 or 3. Perhaps D&D people transported to the existing pokemon setting? Probably not, haha.

My only issues are:
1. Ero-playing in a multiplayer game is weird and uncomfortable for everyone else, so it's bad form, and I'm trying to vaguely follow social niceties.
2. I already have a (somewhat deserved) reputation as a
filthy whore pervert, and would like to show people that I can totally enjoy a game that isn't about sex.
