Adventure Games Thread

In light of the recent release of Heroine's Quest, and the general frustrations endemic to ye olde pointe-and-clycke adventure games in general, I figured this is appropriate.

Besides, maybe someone else will have turned out to have played King's Quest 6 and done the Land of the Dead part of that...

Anyways.

Heroine's Quest: Sorceress playthrough at 407/500 points, on the last chapter, trying to wrap up sidequests. I think I'll do a warrior playthrough next.

I'm impressed with this. It's a really high-quality work. I like how the mythology is pretty accurate, and dig the combat (then again, I loved the Quest for Glory 2 remake's combat)

As a mage, my favorite part is the variety of the spells. Quest for Glory, magnificent though it was, had a lot of combat spells and then a few you used a couple of times in a game in plot points. In Heroine's Quest, your solution to every puzzle I can think of involves magic.

And then there's non-plot utility. I especially like how if you need to get into a town after dark, you can teleport past the gate.

Anyway. If anyone needs a hint or something for sorceress playthrough, I'm qualified.

I've just began the warrior playthrough, as a mighty Lulzhilda. I figured that being a badass berserker would be appropriate for a northern themed game.

I gave it a shot, got lost, and froze to death. Probably going to try again sometime.

If you set the difficulty to easiest possible, frostbite doesn't kill you.
EDIT: Also, the plot gives you an automap by like day 2 or 3.

Map happens on day 2.

If you can scrape up 20 silver, from gambling at the bar at night or something, the wizard will sell you a scarf for 20 silver. It'll greatly reduce the freeze rate.

If you're a sorceress, he'll give you a free spell--a fire aura, which can be used to warm you up when Frostbite sets in.

Weeeeeeeeeeeeelllll.

It's okay. The protagonist is a miserable unlikable piece of shit, and there is at least one bad puzzle, but it's okay. The music is decent, the voice acting is good.

I found the first half of Broken Sword 5 kind of underwhelming. Most of the recurring characters felt like gratuitous pandering, and usually ended up less interesting than the new ones the writers had to present full personalities for. The cafe guy was pretty funny though, and they did a very impressive job with their scaling hint system.
