WTF is there to possibly say in a new edition-wasn't the First Edition simply a game of "Roll dice, Game Master either fucks you over or makes you describe how you get fucked over"?

If you can still sell shovelware why wouldn't you? People like silva do exist who are willing to buy it. So why wouldn't they go for another?

I guess I'm just amazed at the audacity- I glanced at the Second Edition playbooks and didn't see anything different from the one I had seen for First Edition. Perhaps there are subtle differences that have escaped me.

If character creation and the basic resolution system are the same I'm not sure what the hell he is actually selling and why it would be called Second Edition and not *World Reprinted, unless it's the Onyx Path business plan.

Even then, how nostalgic can a person be for a product that came out a mere five years ago?

The thing is, Bear World has a following of fools who believe a second edition is necessary and as the Doobie Brothers sang; what a fool believes, he sees. Roll and get fucked is a positive outcome for these folks.

From looking over the quickie materials, there's a new move using Hard that fixes the Aggro/Seize bullshit like a naughty puppy. They also dropped a class and added two or three more to create the illusion of positive change. The biggest thing seems to be actual combat rules, but they are Sir Not Appearing In This Teaser.

There's a hack called Magical Burst that included some kind of combat rules other than "roll to apply murderblender, what you roll theoretically is meant to determine how much damage you got back".

So, if they're the big thing, they got beat to it. The only new thing they are likely to offer is "combat rules now with the Vince Baker Skidmark of Approval".

The basic moves changed somewhat: sucker someone is added, and there's new battle moves for combat. The seduce or manipulate move is new (I think), but although it gives a nod to the idea that you can use it on PCs, it still doesn't address that there's no change in difficulty for manipulating Gullible McMoron versus Smarty Fizsmartpants.

I note with wry amusement that the chopper still only gets two moves, and one of them is "if you're lucky, you can tell your gang to do something and get them to obey without having to fight them."

But hey, he's gotten $65K already and doesn't have to deliver anything for 8 months. It's not a bad chunk of change to do some minor editing and produce some new PDFs. It won't work out to more money than a real job but it's not like he has to work real hard for it either.

The thing about Kickstarter is that you don't need to worry about how many people want a product if enough people want it and commit to the project. Instead of producing something and hoping people will buy it, if not enough give their money ahead of time, no product's made.

This has its undesirable aspects as well as benefits.

How many editions of CoC have been printed without actually changing anything, now?

New cover art and format changes are enough for certain... Niches.

Those were new printing runs as much as anything. In the days of paste-up, when assembling new printing proofs meant you might have to type and photocopy some new pages. This is the era of digital storage, and Apocalypse World pretty much exists as a pdf anyway. There is no new printing run, and if they wanted to print it again they could use the old pdf for the new printing proof.

It's all very odd.
