Stone to Flesh on Stone Golem:

"The spell also can convert a mass of stone into a fleshy substance. Such flesh is inert and lacking a vital life force unless a life force or magical energy is available. (For example, this spell would turn a stone golem into a flesh golem, but an ordinary statue would become a corpse.) You can affect an object that fits within a cylinder from 1 foot to 3 feet in diameter and up to 10 feet long or a cylinder of up to those dimensions in a larger mass of stone."

Stone Golem Entry:

"A stone to flesh spell does not actually change the golem’s structure but negates its damage reduction and immunity to magic for 1 full round."

Weird thing.

If you cast Stone to Flesh twice you can turn it into a Flesh Golem.

There should be a whole series of spell based jokes with golems. Flesh to Stone should obviously turn a flesh golem into a stone golem, Ironbody should turn a golem into an iron golem for the duration, etc.

oh, so like in Nethack where a flesh golem is a particularly punishing hard counter to the tactic of wielding a dead cockatrice as your primary weapon for its petrification effect

In the context of dumb oneshots and hack and slash meatgrinders, a whole interlocking mess of dumb ways to transmute golems into other golems with wildly different challenge levels would be a lot of fun.

A statue becomes a corpse? With bones? What if it's a skeleton statue does it turn meaty with teeny bones inside or just meat or all bone?

Yknow that's a good in-game reason to explain why no Faerun religion has jesus style dying statues

Clearly statues just become actual people

I'd have thought it should really depend on the statue, since not all statues are going to be petrification victims.

Might also have some implications for mining operations, if it works like Nethack where small rocks become meatballs and boulders become huge chunks of edible meat.

It's stone to flesh, not stone to bone. It becomes a walking slab of meat that can still kick your butt.

Ilmater specifically does have those though.

How many "X to X" spells have there been over the years? Have there been any ballin' wizards who researched a "Flesh to Gem" spell?

Turning a bad guy into gold and then selling him for sword money sounds more D&D than 90% of scenarios most players and DMs try to come up with.

Selling 'lifelike statues' is an old plot, one I've seen more than once.

The Yamara comic had a plotline centered around the Flesh-to-Plush spell which turned people into dolls and their gear into plastic accessories. I'm 90% sure the spell got a write-up in Dragon magazine.

I think you meant to link to your awesome Medusa class instead of your awesome Manticore class.

I blame my client, who provided all the HTML that I used for the Index. I just copied the URL from the Index, and I was provided wrong information as it turns out.

So "scroll down a little bit" I guess.

The best version I've seen was in the old Gazetteer for Darokin where the "artist" was using a rare cockatrice that turned people into jet statues. Semiprecious stone for the win.

Personally, I've always been a fan of Flesh to Salt from Sandstorm, because the "cow-to-salt" ratio is pretty great since salt is a trade good.
