Chiming in as the buddy of Maxus that did up the encounter, you can do CAH, Munchkin, and there's MTG as well. There's also Dominion, Twilight Imperium, Red Dragon Inn, and whatever else the workshop folk bothered to upload the resources for. As is, the super hot game that all the cool kids play is ...

The more I read it, I rather like the way Burning Wheel handles positioning. Exact distances don't matter, as far as ranged attacks go you're basically concerned with Close Range, Optimum Range, and Long Range. In melee, you've got distance categories based on reach, which is something like Lunging,...

Weak Lights: The room is unusual dim, you've got a flashlight but it seems like the beam is falling flat as though the batteries are dead. It's only in this one place, as soon as you come up from the basement the beam seems as bright as it ever was. There's Something Behind You: Just something in t...

Mkay, was curious. Even if it does look like it's mechanically frustrating [though it does seem soundish], I probably am going to in the very least mine a lot of the ideas. There's something to be said for how it tries to run everything in a way to create an interesting story.

How do you feel about Burning Wheel (Revised)?

Recently got this as a gift from friend, had the Burning Wheel main book and the character book. Read both! Seems pretty cool. Combat seems like it can be a bit slow and clunky if you get too involved with it, but it also seems nice for a dramatic one on one battle. My main gripe? Humans getting Fai...

Why so broad? If you're going to come up with a stupid faux pas that you didn't mean to, it might not be something under Knowledge[Orcs] as much as it might be something personal to that very orc. Maybe he's just pissed off because your voice sounds like someone who once knifed him in the crotch. Or...

Call me an idiot if I'm being one, but from reading this, what seems to make the most sense would be this. NPC is angry. PCs are coming along. They have pie for him. You roll to see how he feels about the PCs. He is angry, so there is a negative somewhere on the roll or a positive to the DC to make ...

Hmm, neat! Pondering the idea of spiders in dice towers...I'm not the greatest with spiders other than creatively putting them out of their misery [Think less torturous like those jerks that pull legs off as much as...experimenting with flash freezing because that doesn't mar the wall up with spider...

I'm thinking that given the division of nation states, using money that's backed by a government in a way that you can use that money to pay taxes you owe to that government....whatsit called, probably wouldn't work well, but I'm wondering if it would in the correct setting. Another bad idea, I'm mu...

Hm, always thought it was a recluse that bit my uncle, but after reading this I'm not quite sure. What did happen was it [the poison] ate a great big hole in his arm, and he wore this funny thing that looked like a fishnet stocking over the whole arm for close to a year. Any idea what that might hav...

As was pointed out, there isn't actually a lot of gold sitting around. And because gold is just a bartering good, people could seriously shut you out of the economy by deciding that they don't want gold anymore--same way all of your carpets and glass beads can suddenly not be worth anything. Now gr...

Not quite as good a reason though as "I can charge this jackass more because he can actually afford to pay these prices, and has enough money he likely just won't care. Unlike the rest of these turnip-eating shmucks."

Indeed, it was Archimedes [Eureka!] but while it could be done, it's just not feasible for every transaction to involve a precisely made fluid vessel and calculations. Granted, it could just be magic'ed away, but who wants to call a wizard when you just want to buy a goddamned sheep? You can just us...

Some of my dice shatter on occasion, but they got ran over by a car a while back for the most part. Explanation: I lived in a college town. In every college town, there's a balck market for stolen books. Someone stole my backpack out of my car and walked about a block, realized they were D&D bo...

And again comes up the subject of adulterants. Gold is very easy to melt. As are some other relatively common metals. You can mix them to get something basically the same color, and still pretty damn heavy to get basically more 'gold'. Weighing doesn't detect a halfway decent attempt at shorting som...

Also, you can end-run around regicide for profit by simply moving from a precious metals = cash system to currency. Killing the king is a stupid idea, because in doing that, his reign ends, and his currency becomes useless unless some other entity (the adventurers?) are willing to supply the releva...

That makes a lot of sense...and makes a nice place to hold an adventure in. Say the PC's chase some monster in there and fire up some killing, and the elves show up and are like "WTF dude, this is were we eat and shit and you're just shooting fireballs and acid globs and spells of Poison Elf Fo...
