Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths

How much are you supposed to level up during your random hexcrawl? Its possible (2% chance) that your first encounter in the jungle is a CR 8 tyrannosaurus. You will very likely be level 1. So your TOA game could be "dicked over by NPC, town seems cool, TPK". It recommends that you are 1s...

Re: Complaining about 5e Adventure Paths

that module is frustratingly bad. Its got so much cool stuff potential, and constantly goes out of its way to yank it from the players hands or keep it hidden from them. Its a hexcrawl, but 99% of the hexes are empty, and there is no incentive to get to any of the ones that have interesting stuff. A...

Re: Does anyone play Pathfinder 2E?

Roll20 says no. https://blog.roll20.net/posts/the-orr-group-industry-report-q1-2021/ PF2 (1.51% of campaigns) is far less popular than PF1(3.49%), and very close in popularity to 3.5 (.98%). Its basically the 4e to PF1's 3.5. 5e on the other hand has 52.94% of the roll20 market and is seeing growth....

Re: Moments when a piece of entertainment completely lost you.

Spot on about MK. I heard about the movie, got amped, then heard about some new guy named Cole who was going to blah blah blah, and was completely disinterested. Trailers came out, hardly featured him, and looked sweet. I'm re-hooked because its MK. Sit down to watch and it was alright at best. Not ...

Did not mean to come across as defending the content. Was mostly making sure it was clear that the hyperlink srd folks didn't randomly write their own sanity rules and then try to slip them into people's 3.5 games by pretending it was WoTC content. Now, they still have it up, and no one is forcing t...

I'm working on some backstory to give people about Sigil, because the concept is really cool. The deeper I go into the lore around it, and the lady of pain, the worse it gets. You'd be better served tossing her, and most of the factions, than reworking them just to distance yourself from any associa...

A simple etymology search would refute your claim about the word orc. If you can find a couple of pre-Tolkien sources that talk about a race of orcs, I'd love to see them. Bonus points if they hate elves. Beowulf. Mythological monsters with names similar to "orc" can be found in the Old E...

There's no +10 cap on Dispel Magic in Pathfinder. I've been playing the game pretty much since it came out and I'm still finding spells that don't quite work like they did in D&D 3.5. But... why? Pathfinder isn't a 3.x fix, and wasn't even really supposed to be one. They changed enough things t...

In the prequels, the Dooku was a disaffected jedi. Same with most of the separatists in the clone wars. Dooku bailed and got corrupted to the dark side immediately, but he was open to it because he had the same realizations as Ahsoka (who notably also left the order and went wandering in search of a...

You can tell wild magic is universally terrible, because without fail, there are always rules to remove the randomness and let players pick their outcome or negate bad ones. I think you could genuinely replace wild mages with a sorcerer style class with refluffed spells. He doesn't cast fireball, he...

Y'all ever played a game where the opposition party's use of dailies and encounters was taken into account when they fight the PC's? If I'm designing an NPC spellcasting villain, I'll make a note of their spellcasting tactics. For example, if they have mage armor that lasts 6 hours, I might say the...

Yes. I use the organization entry when I find a cool monster I want to try to include in an upcoming game, and want to know what you might find them with. I think it provides for a relatively interesting resource management scenario. If everyone recharges at the same time with the same mechanic, there's an obvious best time. If everyone is different, it drives towards discussions around "should we keep going" and can make optimal tactics har...

The pathfinder version of Mini-Dungeon Tome is probably the most referenced book at the table when I'm DMing. Its fantastic for when I need to throw a quick dungeon into a campaign, or need a couple of plot hooks. The actual content isn't mind blowing, but its information dense and easy to modify qu...

If you don't want randomness factoring in, what if you take the take 1/10/20 idea but make it a resource people invest in. Have a list of your 15 skills, and tell people that first level characters get 10 dots to spend. Every time they level up, they get 5 more dots. So a character sheet will say Cr...
