In 3.5 D&D, creatures that succeed a saving throw are aware they've been the target of a spell or ability and resisted it. Does the same thing happen if a spell they weren't otherwise aware of fails to penetrate spell resistance? Specifically, I have a demon in position to spam some nasty spell-...

Tome question: the Demon Armour allows the wearer to "see souls." Can living or undead creatures still make a Hide check to avoid the wearer's notice? Can invisible creatures be located with this soul vision? Can nondetection or the like block it?

If they hadn't brought back the original creator I might give it a look, but I really don't feel like kickstarting something for a guy that apparently didn't pay his writers last time. Nevermind his big old "manifesto" page in BESM 3 that amounted to "I, the game designer, refuse to t...

True, but when I get down to house-ruling it I'd like to be aware of what parts are house rules and what parts are (at least arguably) RAW.

Thanks for the answers! I don't know where the errata is, so my plan is to run it as written in 3.5. Double-checking my copy, I can see both arguments on polymorph with templates. The argument for polymorph snagging templates is that it clearly overrides alter self's limits on what forms you can tak...

I've been diving into polymorph cheese in 3.5 this weekend and found an oblique reference to "paragon wolves." I've found the template and the arguments for being able to polymorph into templated creatures (circa 2004 - later errata and/or "polymorph subschool" stuff may have cha...

Old-school stupid wizard trick I came across while re-reading the 2E Tome of Magic: Schrodinger's Armour. The Wild Magic spell There/Not There affects all objects within a 10'cube. it has no saving throw, and probably no magic resist because it targets objects and not creatures though it's hard to s...

3.5 D&D question: if a dragon and a fiend have a kid together, is the child a half-fiend dragon or a half-dragon fiend? The rules provide a clear-cut answer for metallic dragons (the half-fiend template cannot be applied to a Good creature), but applying either template to the other creature see...

Why would anyone play a pathfinder class instead of a Tome one? I guess 9th level casters like the witch and the shaman are worth it, but not so sure about anything else. Do you use pathinfer spells or 3.5 spells or both? As radthemad4 guessed, this player was super-hyped to try out the whole custo...

I'm currently running a Tome game with Pathfinder classes considered upon request. I'm using scaling feats because I never had a chance to try them out earlier. 3.5 skill list with Pathfinder +3 class skill bonus instead of extra skill points. Mostly Red_Rob's scaling items, but wealth by level will...

If you wanted to set a game in Montana, this would be a core reason why. The very Fargoish remoteness of everything and everyone is a core, probably the core reason you'd set a story there at all. Sure, if you're looking at a map and picking a place. However, one of the benefits of urban fantasy is...

-snip Overlord stuff- The main character's motto is clearly "the banality of evil," in that he commits evil with all the banality of a salaryman clocking in his 9-5. Super-late reply here, but I just want to point out this is literally true in-universe. He really is a salaryman who thinks...

Some of the sidequests in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and A2 let you do that. There were even some missions that could only be completed that way or required specific jobs to encourage creating and leveling a diverse team instead of throwing all the XP on your starters.

So my pathfinder party found a crystal ball with telepathy at level 7. Teleport is nerfed, so hanging on to it for scry-and-die isn't as effective as it would normally be. Is it still worth trying to hang on to for spying & telecommunications, or should we cash it in for 35k worth of stuff we ca...

I'm not familiar with Eberron changelings, but I'd definitely give at least a +2 circumstance bonus for shapeshifting out of rope. Ah, thanks! I missed the part of Snap Shot where you didn't provoke attacks of opportunity in melee with it. Veil halfway works through cameras. Veil does not affect cameras or other objective traces of a creature’s passing, merely prevents observers (even indirect observers) from noticing what is there. Speaking of golems, how do they stay hidden all the time? Mask of a Thousand Faces stops people from noticing them day-to-day, but security cameras still see them for what they are.
