There is a spell in the corebook that's basically a magical F/X factory. Check it out in the Illusions section. ;)

That's the reason why the megas hunt technomancers and vivisect them, isn't it?

On an unrelated topic - the SR4 forums were upgraded. Finally. I hope no spambots will slip through this time.
And the PBF games there are fun. :)

So, you're basically a shadowrunner. :P P.S. I don't care if me voicing any of my opinions here will be taken as a threat, or anything. There was a time when i thought of becoming a freelancer for CGL. That was before I've managed to read AH's summary of the Artifacts finale and the High Magic book...

They have guys like Raben-aas on paycheck and use that kind of low-end graphics. A shame... Ahem . . it seems he DID that picture . . Then he's not in the best shape lately. A shame. I liked his B&W works. A lot. PDF's: I kinda liked 10 Jackpointers. And I don't find it 'retarded' that the corp...

Orion wrote:What does being a "flechette" weapon mean in this ruleset? Frankly, Flechettes never worked right in the base rules anyway.
Oh, they did. On an unarmored target. They're basically for mowing zombies.

So, just pick a point of the storyline you are comfortable with and stay there. I did so with Earthdawn, and a few other games.

I want to see magic emerge, and then even magic users snort and say "shit, yeah we can do this with magic, or we can spend 10 nuyen and use tech". That's the way you can play SR even now. Okay, so your mage has Astral Projection. You pay 2,5k for a surveillance drone. And you have the adv...

Okay, so you hate the fact that the devs put too much emphasis on magic in SR4. I get that. But without using GD's, and IE's this wouldn't be the Sixth World. You don't have to stick them everywhere. It's enough if the team knows they're running for/against Lofwyr. Seeing the bigger picture doesn't ...

Except they're not turning it into ED with guns.. because ED with guns might even be interesting. Fire Cannons. :P As for ED itself, Magic isn't in decline there. The Mana level is for some reason stable, and not falling. Metaplot says therans build great Orichalcum pillars to pull that one off. As...

Well. most of the magic stuff in SR4 is consistent and gives an idea of how magic works. This is where ED comes in. In Earthdawn there is a good, working and plausible magic theory. Taking into account almost everything, with Thread magic, Names, Blood magic, Astral, and such. This is why i find Anc...

ED magic has it's edge over SR magic for one reason - it was fully understood. SR magic is more powerful, because you don't need to worry over tainted astral space (much), and cast only from Matrices. Besides, show me a ressurecting spell in SR. Show me any kind of astral travel spell. Yes, they're ...

Anyway, technomancers are not even close to being the silliest part of a Tolkein-esque 1980's-future fantasy RPG. In fact, the thing that really annoys me is how little magical stuff like electrokinesis can interact with technology. Well, if you take into account that Magic is available since ~60 y...

It doesn't have any intelligence. You're trying to explain something, that is wrong - the designator uses a pulse-code. Which the spellcaster has to know, and use to designate the target for his own artillery/airforce. He cannot know the enemy code, unless he managed to obtain it. And memorizing the...

Breaking encryption doesn't make it intelligent. It just makes it mimic decryption programs. It just makes it a magic-to-technology interfaced tool for mages. And that' wrong enough.
And as for why, there's a thing most people who make these up say:
"It seemed like a good idea at the time."

No, it's not intelligent. You can't talk to it, it can't act on it's own. It's a magical, always working hack program.

It doesn't. I used to be in that position, and it almost broke my group apart. I toned down my character, and started to play with my group, instead of with them. That's a lot better. :P

Erm, the empire is in decline for millenia now. They even turned programming and maintenance into religion. WH40K is a dark fantasy setting, and you sympathize usually with those who still fight against 'the darkness'. Even if they blow up entire towns/planets in the process... And because playing t...

As for the rules thing, CGL obviously ignores them. And that's bad. They do need someone like Frank. To be honest, I'm not always good with rules, but i have my moments. I know the guy who was behind most of the numbers involved in a Polish game Wolsung, and he's really good. Thanks to his support, ...

There's an easy way to cut on dice-rolling. Just buy hits for all non-NPC actions, like programs, agents, nodes, and such. Only when it's a Spider, or black IC, rolls come into play. And only if you're comfortable with the possibility of rolling a one-hit-kill with an attack program for the IC/Spide...

Nothing. I mean 'munchkiny' as in making a character that would be awesomely-good, and make other players feel like they're not needed. I bet you've played games like that. Is it fun for anyone, except the powerPC-owner? I meant: just make a character you're comfortable with. Even if he's not a real...

As for the munchkinism, i still think adjusting stats to match the character concept is a lot more important. Even if you have a real lean, mean killing-machine, it has no soul. It's even not like playing a cyberzombie - they have souls. Tattered, yeah, but still. I've played some min-maxed characte...
