If it makes you feel any better about it, I look forward to seeing the details of the process simply because it sounds wonderfully nerdy.Prak_Anima wrote:Novembermike, stop being a fucking retard. Sure, I'll hold your God damned hand through the process when I get home.

So the conclusion I have after 20 years of rpgs is that the fights are NOT realistic. They are pretty good simulation of whatever assumptions you build into the system. They are NOT realistic and attempts to make them more realistic get bogged down in defining things like what are the REAL results ...

All that matters is that it's a wildly popular fantasy novel written in the 80s during 1e that spawned a nonmagical character with nonmagic weapons that killed giants and dragons and is so popular that he has been statted in 1e, 2e, 3e, and 4e in different sourcebooks. That's what people want. It w...

Well, its good to see people throughing out their SCA, Arma, fencing, kendo, mma, and fight book credentials. If you can find a better source of information to ground realism in, I'd love to see it. Being that people who actually fought lethal combat with edged weapons and plate armor aren't terrib...

I prefer this: So do I. There's two ways you can get that. You can either make a giant fight something your character will never breeze through like it's nothing even if the odds do favor them, or you can make your character inhumanly strong/fast. No amount of skill will change the fact that a glan...

Knowing a trick and having the reflexes and skill to use them appropriately is an entirely different matter. The good tricks are the ones that take, like, three hours to be usable in battle, and after that it's just training to improve accuracy and power. The latter of which the giant already has i...

Again, I have to ask if anyone here has actually fenced before? Yes. Fencing is a sport. It's useless in battle. Seriously, find an Olympic level fencing master and me, give me some armor and both of us actual, sharpened sabers, and I will win, because I will start the fight by dropping the toad-st...

Having a chance does not equate to a level-appropriate encounter. Sure, a master swordsman could beat me no matter how awesomely thick my skin was, but I'm not an amateur swordsman. I'm an almost completely untrained swordsman. I'd seriously probably have better odds of winning dropping my weapon an...

You aren't arguing against anime abilities. You're arguing against anime aesthetic. It's different. So, ignoring whether your guy looks like Cloud Strife or Beowulf, you're going to need the ability to cut through a battleship if you want to fight a dragon, because dragonscale is really, really toug...

http://3alleypub.files.wordpress.com/2008/03/beating_a_dead_horse.jpg?w=450 Wonderful. Now that that's out of the way. I don't think Vancian casting is dissociated. It's easy to associate, actually, though when I first encountered it in the first Dragonlance series way back when, it seemed very, ve...
