One option to avoid the disconnect of how becoming a better climber makes you an equally better swimmer is to make Skill Specialties or Foci, which give you an additional bonus on that skill check for that specific scenario. Taking a Skill Focus costs the same level-up wise as adding a rank in the s...

I considered controlling the weather, too, that might actually be an interesting twist, having them be two shards counterbalancing each other, but problematic otherwise.

Dimrathi Dimirath was the fourth son of Tobias. He was an excellent strategist and renowned for his composure, patience, and foresight. He married Jakari, the princess of a tribe of mystics who lived at the foot of the mountains. He eventually located his capitol among those people, who became the D...

Or they'll turn it into a clone/compatible sister game to WotC's sweetheart money maker, Magic the Gathering. There are plenty of people who have wanted/actively want the two to meet and make sweet nerd enterprise love, and Magic is like Christianity. It loses tons of people every year. It also gai...

The game itself worked fairly well but one thing that we noticed was psychological: When player rolled her character's rolls against <person> then NPC die roll sprung up all kinds of talk about this or that being good luck to opponent being skilled or many other explanations concerning in-game univ...

Except that the thread is actually about disassociation, so they should change what they are talking about to be about the subject of the thread instead. The OP never mentions disassociation, he's talking about viable game mechanics that have more verisimilitude than just flat HP, that is what the ...

Enough with the disassociated definition nonsense, if you know what they're talking about, even if they're using the wrong term for it, get over it and attempt to communicate about the idea they're getting at, stop holding people up to the wall with a gun to their head for being less anal about sema...

Huhhh? Who said that that result was dumb? In order for the game to have any suspense at all, it needs to be able to theoretically generate the result of 'you get killed before you even figure out that the world needs saving'. This chance can be very small, like 1%, but it needs to have a chance of...

I did notice that after a couple of posts. How did I read this entire thread thinking there was that 'c' in there? :P

Almaz, you are missing entire sections of my arguments that address this where I say the PCs CAN misrepresent themselves. I completely, 100% advocate PC actions triggering a roll. If they wanna dress up, send messages to the Witch, or some other stuff that's fine. That deserves a roll. But players ...

The impression I always got from this thread was that if the witch has been harassed all the time that would create a penalty on her reaction roll, but also that the reason Frank advocates a roll instead of a decided output is so that the players, essentially, can misrepresent themselves, and that ...

Read the responses in this thread . Several people have said that they would decide reactions for the NPCs before the PCs ever got a chance to interact with them. Where the fuck is the player agency then? This is not an uncommon position and I'm laughing right in your face at this naive magic tea p...
